new canadian made 1911

i'm gonna go with a "meh" and a "huh?"

"meh" cuz they've got a million and one Gov't models - they all look pretty well the same, there's next to nothing that helps differentiate one model from the other - and not a single Commander. if they had a Commander, i'd maybe give them more consideration.

"huh?" because they seem to just use other company's parts, more like an assembly shop rather than a proper manufacturer. and they've been active since 2005?

exactly and that is why I already said......

Hmmmmmm

Canadian made/manufactured/machined or just assembled here ?

Is the machining being done here, right from a block of billet ?, or are these forgings coming out of China or some other country and then just cleaned up here ?

All the parts mentioned above don't seem to do anything with Canada, do they ?

I would really like more info.......if anyone has it...

I sent Canstar an email yesterday asking them if I could make and appointment to go and see them. I live in Ottawa so Alfred, Ontario is a short drive. I got this reply back this morning "Sorry our licence is for internet and phone sales only. I will help you with everything you want to know." Seems strange to me.....

Marstar is the same way with no storefront.

Because there is a large proportion of handgun purchases/owners that only want stainless now...

I am one of them...

:)

blued Colt Delta Elite 10mm purchased in Jan 1988 s/s wasn't available then
Glock 20 10mm
Glock 29 10mm

My revolvers are all s/s...

The key to my statement was one word "only want stainless now"...

:)

Looks good, buy Canadian.

in the list below, what part is Canadian ?

So far all I see is a firearm fame and parts that are possibly assembled in Canada, but not manufactured......

Prove me wrong.....

If at least the frame is machined here, or forged here and the finish machining is done here, I would then believe I am at least buy something of a Canadian firearm

I wonder, is Canstar affiliated in any way with Marstar ? doubt anyone knows for sure, perhaps John can answer ?

This thread is about a new Canadian pistol builder/gunsmith that wants to make a go of it in our small market. I applaud this business and am thinking about making a purchase. What does it have to do with your crappy chinise made 1911? If you have no respect for yourself and the gun comminity by purchasing a terribly made firearm most likely by underage workers in harsh conditions go ahead. I ask you not to litter this thread with posts of how your purchased junk is good enough for you or how your life sucks.

If things are hard going for you right now - I hope for better times for you. I don't think I need to read about them here.

A great platform to throw $1000 at? Why not just start out where you'll end up?

You can turn any POS into something else, but why bother? If I were buying a Norinco, I would keep it a Norinco. Dressing it up like a top grade gun isn't fooling anyone except the cash strapped owner. Check the EE, there are lots of Chinese guns that guys have spent retarded amounts of money on, only to have them sit in limbo because nobody is willing to pay what the owner thinks they are worth. I am not against buying Chinese guns, they are inexpensive copies of tried and true designs. Just don't kid yourself into thinking that your Norc is a couple of upgrades away from being an STI or Kimber.

some people look at guns like cars,,
cant afford a nissan skyline?
buy the same chassis and add the parts you need and go from there.

I cannot justify $1500 in 1 lump on a gun to get ______ as a result.
I can justify $400 and $50 every couple of months on parts.

in the end i can do the machining myself or at my buddies CNC / CMM shop and hand fitting and finishing is only going to be limited by the info i can get through various resources (books Internet and a smith's email)
i'll be able to get $1000 worth of work done for probably closer to $600.

im not worried about resale im worried about result... if your worried about resale get something else... but im sure youll find most are not in the BUSINESS of guns.. we are consumers of guns.

i dont expect to get my money back.. as i dont expect to sell it.

I have said I would buy a $1500 gun if I can save up for it... but for way more people out there than not.. $1500 is better spent in too many other area's / aspects of life to justify it by any other means but saving over a long period of time.

lets not talk about the stuff for my car or other hobbies I can buy for that price.

please remember I did say i would pay that from these guys if their CANADIAN product can outperform or equal a CZ tactical sport.

I will be on the market for a 1911 this year, I was considering a DW Valor but before commiting I'll seriously look at those 1911. I'd consider driving there and have a look if it's possible, it's not too bad ~1:30 from Montreal.

I sent an email yesterday asking if these guns will be available in 10mm the response today was no so I have no further interest in dealing with this company, I'll get Dlask to build me one when I am ready...

so much for "Custom 1911" that they 'supposedly' make (manufacture) as opposed to assemble from pre-made parts...

hopefully their reply to you was more than just a terse "no"

Wasn't terse at all it was a short reply that stated no we do not check out our site for what we do do...

Me having no interest in the anemic performance of the 9mm/45acp will not spend that kind of money on a firearm that is not chambered in the cartridge I prefer...

I have been thinking that the long slide 40S&W may not be to hard to get a KKM or Barsto 10mm barrel & Wolff heavier recoil spring for.

If that is possible I may look at these again buy it in 40S&W and get the 10mm components...

bit of a tangent to this thread, but why not stick with the .40 in that case? easier to get brass for and you can reload them to some pretty f'n stout levels if you use Hodg Longshot powder.
