Welcome! "what to get?" might be one of the most common questions on this site, so be prepared for plenty of answers. There are tons of options when it comes to .22 semis. For a modest-priced .22 with an excellent reputation for accuracy, I'd go for the Marlin 795. I've been talking myself out of buying one of these for a few years now. (I own a 10/22 I rarely shoot) I'm not one who likes to modify, or junk-up a gun...so my 10/22 is very stock, complete with it's terrible factory trigger. So, unless you have $500+ to spend on a .22 semi., or want something older/used, the most common ones discussed around here that you can buy new are;
Remington 597
Ruger 10/22
Marlin 795
Remington~I've never been a fan of the 597s, I think they're kind of ugly. Supposed to be able to out-shoot 10/22s out of the box, but I can't verify.
Ruger 10/22~cruddy (heavy) trigger pull, does affect accuracy. They will digest a wide variety of ammo., including subsonics. Limitless aftermarket options, loads of info. online to trouble-shoot any issues if you have them. (I never have)
Marlin 795~the cheapest-looking/costing of all of these. Supposed to be quite accurate with a decent trigger. Fairly light, small for easy carry. Probably the .22 semi I should have gotten as my plinker.

Might get one this year.
Anyone want to buy a 10/22?
