Can't believe the number of guys who would call the nanny state. Just like good old Russia, turn your neighbor in. I like to hear you called/talked to the neighbor and the problem resolved. Just like neighbours should.
Wouldn't it be great if everyone reported on everyone to the state. In no time everyone would be in jail.

I agree with this totally, without us policing ourselves and to let it go to a complete free for all would turn the hunting experience into a very unsavory situation. Looks like some just want to do as they please and have no regard for rules and guidelines because they don't figure that the rules apply to them.

It's not the 1900's anymore but sure seems like some want it that way.We have to protect these resources, they may not be there one day.

But again, if something seems questionable let the right people deal with it, that is why we pay them.

These threads really bring out the winners here. I can't believe the number of guys here who would turn a blind eye. If this is what the future of hunting in Ontario holds we're all really fu*ked.

BTW. Even natives must be on a reserve or treaty lands to hunt or fish out of the standard seasons.

Blind eye to what exactly?
Nothing from what has been posted.
  1. Nothing witnessed
  2. No blood trail.
  3. No confirmation of any kind.
Never even asked the guy what he is hunting....Who knows. You may even be asked to join him hunting yotes.
OH YA I FORGOT....It is better to assume then ask.

Because sitting over deer bait, in a tree stand, using a deer call sounds like he's coyote hunting...

This information came from?

A Conservation Officer with the MNR who has charged lots of natives off reserves. He actually charged a few last week.....

Hope that answers it for you...

Snowed like crazy today, he took day off I guess, talked to land owner, said its a relative that has permission, had no idea he was still hunting.

You still don't know what he is hunting. Still assuming?

So you wet to the land owner, and told your far out take on the situation?

Said he was gonna call him, owner had no idea season was over(non hunter), I guess I won't hear him till fall now.

So all seasons are closed there?

. Owner said guy is a new hunter, lives in town and is a little "slow". Mayby the salt lic was for bunnies eh? He won't be harrased by fish cops so go save someone else from THE MAN!

Bait.....Deer don't do salt licks in the winter.
Using a deer call after the rut is long over is a total wast of time. I've tried!(lived where deer yard). Good way to call yotes though.

The original poster stated it was 5-6 acres. How many places to set up a stand on that much land?

There is alot of common sense things to look at before flying into crazy assumtions.

It was also posted there was a salt lick...How would the OP know this if he had not trespassed to see this?

Who else would a consevation officer be with?

That sounds made up!

Did you forget that deer rut twice??? ;)

He is a little slow??????????Now thats a bit redundant.

By the way, bunnies love salt licks.

If you actualy read what I wrote I seen the stands and salt from river, river is not owned by land owner, and yes I know for sure.

Assumption is a dangerous thing.

You go out to your car, your carrying your shotgun to go do a little duck hunting. You have a trigger lock on it which is one more step then I take. The next thing you know a do-gooder see's a camo clad terrorist carrying an evil black gun, and their probably going to go on a rampage and kill dozens of people. Quick, call 911! Pretty soon Swat shows up, throws you to the ground, kicks your face and throws you in the back of a car...If they don't shoot you first.

Yup, to assume you know best must be the right thing.

They would only do this if you carried a Mossberg!!! :p

That is true at least in Ontario however who is going to enforce it? The courts? They just throw it out. The MNR? Ministry of No Response. Good luck with that. I work for a native owned company and hear alot of folks talking on a daily basis of the things they are doing both on and off reserve. Nobody in Ontario is willing to enforce the laws for fear of being considered racist or stirring the Liberal's pot. Wildlife is not a concern to the McGuinty gov't, plain and simple.:(

Define treaty lands for me please"

From pg 14 of the Ontario Regs....

The second exception is members of Aboriginal communities
with Aboriginal or treaty hunting rights in Ontario. These
hunters are not required to be in possession of an Outdoors
Card provided they are hunting for food, social or ceremonial
purposes within their traditional or treaty area or they are
visiting the traditional area of another First Nation and have
received proper written permission to hunt from that
First Nation.
All other Ontario residents, including Aboriginal persons,
either hunting outside of areas where they have Aboriginal
or treaty hunting rights OR hunting in areas for which they
have not received proper written permission to hunt, must
have a hunting version Ontario Outdoors Card and all
applicable licences.

AFAIK first Nations people can hunt and fish almost anywhere anytime they please, with the exception of private land(unless they have permission). Night time, crown land etc. Very few situations supercede their treaty rights.

Father inlaw has a indian hunter friend, CO gave him a ticket years ago because he was from different tribe and had no permission, happend while moose hunting near armstrong ontario, he had no outdoors card and his status card shows what tribe he is from
