Ashamed to be a hunter

I don't think it's a yote at all. The deer's legs have been removed at the knee. The entire cape is gone and the legs. If someone just wanted a head mount they would not of skinned the the entire deer and cut off the legs, thats extra work for nothing. But wrapping the meat in winter also makes no sense cause usally thats done for mild weather to keep off bugs. They might of tried to camoflauge it in the game bag.

The road looks like a gravel road not well travelled and the carass was dumped after it snowed because there is no snow on the carcass. They couldn't of been travelling that fast as to "loose" a deer out of a truck. Come on how do you loose over a 100 lbs of meat from a truck without noticing it missing. If the tail gait opened the deer would not fall out unless you were really hot doggin the truck down the road. Could of been an ATV by the look of the tracks in the snow, the carcuss lays on top of the tire track. And the man track is consistant with someone getting off a bike.

Not sure why or what happened there myself but it is definately suspicious. And does not appear to be accidental that the carcuss lays on the ground.

Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. But that said I would spit on a man's grave for intentionally dumping game.

I thought it was a deer at first too and the guy who strted the thread claims it to be but after looking a few times I am not so sure of my initial thought. The legs to me dont look as though they are cut at the knee? They look like they are cut above the paw. Thats what made me wonder most if it was a yote, the legs look more dog like than deer like to me. Would be nice to see the cheesecloth peeled off and a few more photos taken.

Send him to Nova Scotia to hunt with us. After a couple of years and not seeing a deer to shoot he will take much better care of what he has in Alberta.
Makes me sick to see stuff like that.:(

I don't know where you are hunting but not a day goes by where I couldn't have my choice of a deer.

Also I'm going to take a guess and say that this was a trophy animal. Head gone and hide.

I agree, I think it is a coyote with the paws not skinned out.

Thank you for posting this in a open forum, sure is nice to bring attention to hunting in a positive light. Every anti thinks all hunters are slob hunters.

I don't hear people complaining about all those animals that die in the bush and are eaten by scavengers. This animal probably died quickly and painlessly compared to a "natural death". The carcass will feed scavengers. Yes, if the meat was useable, and if it really is a deer (pretty small next to those footprints) it does seem a waste in a way, but perhaps there are good reasons why it is there, such as those already mentioned.

It's been said that nothing goes to waste in nature.

Update: Just came from getting the mail. I was considering taking some more photos but decided against. The coyotes haven't found it or the human smell is keeping them away. I suspect the later. Several comments made about "if in fact it was a deer in the pic". Let me assure everyone I know what I saw. Its a deer with the legs cut off at the knee joint. Another comment "seldom traveled gravel road". Not actually, Its 1 mile from a secondary paved road and gets quite a bit of traffic. Its been dumped, obviously. Its can't bee seen in the pic but its at the top of a hill where you can see north and south quite a distance. Other poster asked if this happens alot. Yes, but almost allways only heads, hides and bones and as stated in the end of November /early December after hunting season closes. The thing that really makes me mad is all the junk that comes with it. Bags, boxes and plastic. If this guy had knocked on my door and told me the story I would have offered a spot where we could dispose of the carcase with some dignity and not offended any neighbors-----Cowboy

Either that or they bumped into something that scared the bejeesus out of them (such as a large bear) and made a run for it.

Not many bears in the area OP lives. The biggest predators we have around here are coyotes.

we hung a deer in the walkin cooler one year and left for three days had an ice storme and lost power by the time we got back the deer had spoiled . what you going to do realy DUTCH

Well, you could not ditch the carcass beside a road for all to see and have to deal with whatever garbage is involved. The Sheppard dump in Calgary takes animal carcasses at no cost if you want to dispose of them without dumping in the country.

I agree. I don't mind feeding yotes but the garbage really isn't required. I also appreciate the fellas that were on my property, dropped a nice WT doe, then carted it well away from my house so my dogs don't go rolling in the gut pile. Definitely appreciated.

Ashamed to be a hunter over this? That's like saying you're ashamed to have a drivers license because your neighbour was arrested for drunk driving. We can't legislate manners, common sense, or responsible behaviour. All we can do, as ethical hunters and shooters, is educate those who don't know, apologize for the scumbags who give us a bad name, and be true to our values with a dignity that speaks for itself. -

Well put!!!!!

Any tags left on the carcass?

We busted a couple of guys that were dumping both deer and moose on my buddy's property. Looked like they had only been shooting for antlers. Everything else was dumped. Thankfully, they were complete idiots and left their tags on the animals. Perfect evidence for F&W.

Sorry if I offended you or you felt questioned, that wasn't my intent. I just found the pic hard to determine what the animal actually was and we all know there are trolls on here who would come up with some #### and bull story just to stir up crap. Sad to think somebody would just dump it out for all to see. If they lost it due to weather or emergency and couldnt get to it in time it's too bad but if they just let it spoil and then threw it away.......well I hope someday they are caught.

I know exactly where you found it (near Lochend Rd). A friend of mine and I saw the carcass last night (he'd seen it earlier the day before). He called the CO in Cochrane about it. He got permission to take it or shoot yotes off of it. The CO figured it was someone that had it hanging and let it hang too long. No ID on the thing. No charges will be laid unless some real evidence comes to hand.

And yes to all the internet cowboys, it was a deer.

I live just outside of town and I see stuff like this almost every year. It always makes me wonder why throw it out after all the work that's been done. Some might fall off the truck but not all of them. The landowners around me paint us all with the same brush.
