If you had to buy a currently manufactured high quality European hunting rifle in 300 Win Mag, which one would you choose and why?

Edit: More specs

- Must be bolt action (Sorry Ben, I love Krieghoff too but they're just too pricy for me). I should have specified before.

- 300 Win Mag or similar calibre.

- Single shot or repeater.

  • #1, Schultz & Larsen.
  • #2, Husqvarna.

Tough to find one of those being currently manufactured!

If your budget allows it then consider Hartmann & Weiss or Reimer Johanssen M98, or a Mauser Oberndorf M98 (new production) would be great. Significantly more modest price-wise is the CZ Classic Safari series Magnum Express in .300 H&H Magnum.

With Schultz & Larsen as far as I've been able to find out, yes, they are still being produced. A check of their website and in discussions with a guy on site that is a collector, dwh44, it sounds like they are. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!! As close as I've been able to find out, the closest 'dealer' is based in England. There's three I want, two I have one to go:).

With Husqvarna rifles, I 'believe' they are still producing sporting rifles but don't know for sure so I've left that question with someone on site who will know. Baribal. When I hear from, I'll post the reply. I inherited my first from my Dad and have recently purchased two more. And;)there's one more I'm hoping to get.

I found one in Australia - Schultz & Larsen M97-DL (the high end model) for A$2899, which is the same as the price on a Sauer 202 XT.

Wow, beautiful rifles you got there. I would love a Schutz&Larsen rifle, too bad they don't have a distributor in Canada.

In the 1st picture in post # 11, my top one is a 68DL and the other a 65DL. The last caliber I'm looking for will likely be another 68DL. ;)More within my price bracket:D.

Would like an antique Holland and Holland double rifle in .375 from the late 20s or earlier 30s.

Between $1500-$3500 for the rifle without the glass and mounts.

Well, the Mausers I suggested are out then. In that case either the CZ Classic Safari Express in .300 H&H or one of the many variants of the Sauer 202. You could always add a barrel to the latter and have a nice combo.
