AR pricing OMG!

I bought my first non restricted Colt Sporter back in the day for $700.00 It was basically a civilian M16A2, COLT! Oh Yeah, 30 round mags were not an issue.....

Now, an upper for a KAC is more than twice the price! What the HECK is going on! Don't tell me it's inflation...... How come Norinco can produce an AR for the price I paid over 15 years ago and others are soaking the AR market?

Too many civi's wanting to get into black guns and the companies know this?

Give me your insight,

M4-OPERATOR

My first AR was $450 in the box .

How much did a Colt plant worker make 15 yrs ago ?
How much dose a Chinese plant worker make today ?
:D

In regards to the American AR's, supply is limited partially due to EXPORT regulations.

If they were easier to get, prices would be driven down.

KO

the chinese have the labour force, tooling, machinery and know how to reverse engineer and mass produce the f**k out of damn near anything. Same reason an M-305 costs 2g less than an M1A. American labour costs more, American tooling, machinery and "Made In USA" stickers cost more too. When a company pours alot of time and money into their products, they have to sell them at a high price to keep their business alive.

it has a lot to do with the labour cost and the quality control. I really doubt if many are rejected by the QC in some of the cheaper products

Totally! When I bought my BMW back in 1985, I paid $13,000. Now I can get a Hyundai Accent for that kind of money, but a Ferrari is ten times as much! Can someone explain this to me because I should be able to buy a Ferrari for what a BMW cost me 20 years ago.

KAC is a boutique manufacturer and Norinco is made in china.

I would love a Canadian made AR.

You mean like the already available canadian-made AR's from Blue Line and Dlask? ATR makes one that is slightly modified from a milspec AR, arguable for the better. Finally NEA has announced they will be producing Canadian-made AR's sometime this year.

That will be four manufacturers.

Blue Line lowers are only $149!!!

I don't think we have much to complain about, really, unless you NEED to own a US-made rifle for whatever reason (e.g. Kool-aid, brand hype, perceived differences in quality of product, etc.)

The real issue is some of the cool US patented accessories that can't be shipped to Canada due to ITAR.

Manufacturing cost of a cheap compact car and a Cadillac is probably less than $100 difference.

I don't recall mentioning Cadillac so I don't know if you actually intend your comment to apply to my analogy or not, but if you think it costs a hundred dollars more to manufacture a ferrari than it does to manufacture a hyundai, then I would say you are in perfect shape to join up with the "Canadian gun stores should sell me a KAC for the price of a Norinco" movement. You will fit right in.

Funny as a heart attack....I guess you own a 3 series.....

I've never owned a Norinco, but just trying to get the point across to the civi's that don't have a f**kin" clue what AR's are really worth.....

Well, golly gee, thanks for that.

How could us clueless civi's ever have figured out that #### costs more than it used to without someone from the gov't(?) to point that out.

 OK, wait a second... I've seen government budgets and salary breakdowns in the news, and their operating budgets are definitely not cheaper than private/civilian industry. To be fair, if anyone is going to lecture us peons about how things are expensive, it really should be a government employee :p

By the way, militaries buy M16 variants thousands at a time, along with all the logistics support to keep them going in the field.

You buy ONE.

Ever heard of economies of scale?

I'll bet if you phone questar and ask him to import you 5000 RRA M4 type Ar15's the cost per unit will get VERY attractive in a hurry ;)
