Shorten PAL Approval Times

Got my PAL Info

Thanks for your help :)

....its a way to ask for the number with out asking for it directly, as some people have been told "we do not give out that info"

Thanks for all your help, i called CFC and asked them to transfer me to Ontario CFO, after waiting for 10 minutes on the line, Ontario CFO answered my call, and i asked them exactly the way you told me to, The lady from CFO office was very polite and helpful, they told that the license had been approved but it was printed last Thursday and i should receive it soon, i asked for my PAL number and they gave me the PAL number and the expiry date.
FYI i saw somewhere in this forum that printing is done on Fridays, as per Ontario CFO the printing and mailing is actually done on Thursdays not Fridays !!!
anyways i found out that no store in Toronto area will sell you firearms without the physical card itself (liability issue), i guess i am gonna have to wait until it arrives, HATE WAITING :(
Thanks again

mine was exactly 28days.
01.09.11 took the test
01.11.11 sent in my application
01.17.11 application was signed for
01.24.11 application completed initial processing and is now in progress
01.26.11 money removed from my bank
02.14.11 license issued

Kal1360...Im pretty sure you can purchase firearms ONLINE with just a pal number. And not that I have purchased from this store specifically (im not a pal holder yet, safety course in march), but I have asked some of my close friends here in the GTA and they ordered theres online through sfrc www.theammosource.com ....there prices are fanstastic by the looks of their online store, not to mention they actually have a pretty decent site. Friends (one is cop for Peel Region, the other a gun nut) are pushing me to go there for the first one, just spreading the word

Just wanted to throw one more BIG THANK YOU to the OP! If it wasn't for you... I don't even want to think of how long this process could have taken.

End stats: Course taken Nov 13,14 2010. Forms sent Nov15th and license came in the mail today Feb 15, 2011. Total time is 92 days from the start date to the end date, but not including the end date Or 3 months excluding the end date.

Apparently the RCMP tried to call my references around 11:30 today, around the same time I had a missed call from a blocked number. Woo. I'm going to call them myself shortly!

Edit:

I just called, done my interview. Repeated use of the word no.

One of my references has also spoken to them, just got to get the other (my Mother, so should be easy!) to call in now. Does them calling you + references presumably mean there is no missing/improper info on the form?

Also, figured I'd add a little timeline so far:

Oct 30th - Sent info to UK Police for background letter
Jan 10th - Recieved letter from UK Police
Jan 29th - Passed CFSC/CRFSC
Jan 30th - Mailed Application
Feb 4th - Canada Post list as recieved
Feb 10th - Call CFP and ask if they got it, appears online next day as "completed processing and in progress"
Feb 15th - Get call from RCMP, miss it.. call back later.. look above for result.

I took the Rpal course on the weekend and filling out the forms now. My instructor suggested we call the CFC and ask what they needed and what to pay.

The lady I spoke to at the CFC called me by my first name! I thought big brother really had his act together today when I realized it was a longtime friend! I knew she worked for the government, just forgot where.

We'll see how long it takes to get my RPAL!:)

Far from it.

I originally asked the police over there what they made of the requirements on the PAL form, they were no help whatsoever and came back with TWO options. Called the CFP and they told me right away which one I wanted. For future note, anyone who might need it, when you move here and get PR you require a similar thing, the ACPO (association of chief police officers for those who might not know) now issue a "certificate" for the sole purpose of immigration visas for certain countries, Canada being one. Before that you just got a letter through "Subject Access to information held on the Police National Computer", to put it simply you get a piece of paper saying they have no criminal record/charges etc on file and you're a good little chap. The letter is what you want.

I had to apply for this through my old local Constabulary, who sent my request on to the ACPO, who printed the letter and sent it out. After sending me a first letter to say "we got your application and we'll send you the one you actually want "soon"".

Took a while but it's all done with now. For what it's worth the CFP have been brilliant every time I've spoken to them, always nice and always told me exactly what I wanted to know. Now if only they got some better hold music.. Maybe a choice...

Quick question....

After Receiving your R-PAL, and making your first handgun purchase with their STATT (online per say and it comes but u have no LTATT)....can you call the CFO's office to apply for short-term ATTs for the range every other weekend?

Stupid question, but one of my old friends says he has no membership, owns his glock (bought online so i believe it) and calls the CFOs (or CFC not sure) to get a STATT whenever he feels like shooting (we are in Ontario) and they usually do it within the hour faxed. This feels much better than spending so much on a damn membership. Is this even possible?

I smell bulls**t, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to really say i don't believe him. I know he doesnt have collector status or anything like that.

bsand,

my license came up as issued on feb 3rd (a thursday) i was told they were printed and mailed on fridays (would bt the 4th) i received mine in the mail yesterday. so basically one week and 2 days, im in ontario.. so a few days longer to out there i'd think. it came in an rcmp envelope, didnt notice where it was mailed from.

So I've been reading back a little in this thread and have a question for those in the know.

Once interviews and stuff are all done and the application is sent to the CFO, will the CFO potentially approve the application before they actually "issue" the licence after 28 days? In other words might the CFO tell me it's been approved before the 28 days is up, but I have to wait until the 28 days are gone before they will do the final issuing of the licence??
