Shorten PAL Approval Times

Need some help with pal/rpal

Hey fellow Canadians......I wanted to ask for some advice without being judged, so please if you are going to write derogatory comments please just save it for someone else.

I was charged approx. 4 years ago with possession of marijuana, but got all charges dropped alongside fingerprint removal from the police. Since then, I grew up, got my undergraduate bachelor of arts, and currently pursuing my LLB. I'm interested in obtaining my RPAL/PAL for target shooting and hopefully hunting in the summer. I noticed on the application form it asks for whether I have been charged in the last 5 years. Obviously I have, but does not being convicted mean I should have to classify it.

I'm really hoping for someone who had been charged with something small like this and didnt get convicted to reply with their situation and if it delayed their application or if it was refused.

Thanks all

Just a quick thought....Why dont you wait a year or two. That way you dont have to say anything.

not a troll thanks

That looks like an obvious troll. A first year law student would understand what "charged, convicted or granted a discharge" means.

Why can't I ask? And the reason I was asking was because I got my file deleted after the case was withdrawn. I am a first year law student, in the UK (but from the GTA). Anyways, I WAS charged, i just haven't learned in Canada whether a destroyed file was like a pardon, where you don't have to account for it anymore.

Called CFC today, transferred me right over to the Ontario CFOs office. Described my situation (as stated in an earlier post), and was given an uplifting answer......As long as it wasn't a violence related charge, and considering my case was withdrawn, there should be absolutely no problems, and that it won't take longer to issue the PAL RPAL license. Some good news today, coming back at the end of March, and try and find a firearms safety course instructor who will run the course. BUT as calacta said....he was right, I should have known, but meh...whats the harm in asking anyways, still better to ask when unsure.

Any recommended instructors in the Greater Toronto Area preferably around Mississauga would be greatly appreciated if anyone can throw a name out!

Sorry for the long input, I jus't don't want regulators saying I am a troll....Considering I am trying to enter into target shooting and hunting this year, I only wanted to join a forum where I could learn, and once experienced, to discuss it.
Also, if anyone had the same issue as me, please reply so i know what to expect in the interview....

Take care

No problem, its all good callum.

Spoke to a couple instructors listed off of firearmscanada.com.....hoping to find a firearms safety course (both, including the restricted as well) in the Greater Toronto Area. If anyone has any recommendations let me know, judging by the two calls I made today the classes mostly get formed when there is enough students, and unfortunately that means I have to call back in a month or so.......

Coming back from UK early in late march-end of april to do this course, because I will on be back after that from May-Sept.....Hoping everything goes according to plan, if I do it March, I might be able to obtain a RPAL and LTATT maybe in may-july. Hope that old charge doesnt hurt me :p

Took 4 for mine, but others have mentioned up around 2 weeks.

But if you had sent it registered and tracked it as received by CFC (Usually by someone named Brown), call them and ask if something's wrong. It'll be online by the next day.

And it's the day they sign for it that starts the countdown, not the day it appears online.

Sorry for asking if it came up before.......but after you take the canadian firearms course and pass it (hopefully) ...you then send both the test results (if it passed) and the PAL/RPAL application.....then you find out after a week or so that they received it and its now online for status updates.....you get an interview a week or so later along with reference calls......then if your all good...your license is approved?

If i missed anything or was wrong about any of the process please let me know.

*Finally found an instructor in Mississauga and found a suitable timeslot for the course with him--cant wait till March 28!!!!!!!.....Also I haven't gotten a response from anyone yet on this forum, but if anyone has been charged within the last 5 years but didn't get convicted (Pos.ofMarijuana) or something like that, please let me know what difficulties arose-if any- during the background check phase. *

Thanks
