I just received an email reply from Walmart notifying me that they will be selling rifle claibers in some of their stores on March 11,2011.

I further conveyed my interest in them selling .22,.22lr add 9mm as well but thus far they have no interest yet.

What we need are more emails from BC and other parts of Canada expressing an interest in them selling handgun calibers as well. One letter from me has accomplished some very positive results. I would imagine ten or one hundred emails will get us to the finish line.

Please email walmart customer service requestng that they bring your favorite calibers, even handgun calibers to a store near you. But they will need lots emails to convince them.

Here is their reply to me:

Good morning,

Thank you for your enquiry. We have recently expanded our offering of rifle ammunition which will be in BC Wal-Mart Canada stores in March 2011.

However, with regards to pistol ammunition, we have made the decision not to carry it in our stores.

Thank you for your patronage.

Regards,

Rifle and shotgun ammunition has been sold at Walmart in Northern BC for some time. The cost tends to be higher than the local sports shops however.

Victoria store stocks as well. I've bought .22lr there, and looked over their stock of shotgun and rifle cartridges.

....Also Kelowna and North Van have always had it.

all the regular calibres like 308, .303.0-06 and .300 winmag.

Also bulk packs for .22 and shotgun target loads, along with Slugs and buckshot and sometimes Shotgun sabot. As thee is no dedicated retail gun store in N. Van it's handy to have wal-mart and Cantire stock ammo.

The nice thing about having ammo at walmart, is that sometimes a box or two gets bought with the grocery or household stuff, which means it does not come out of the "bullet budget"

What abut the pistol calibers? Wouldn't you like to see 1000rnds of 9mm for 200 bucks in Canada?

If you write the head office requesting it be sold in your neighborhood stores, we may see it shortly.

not sure where in B.C you are from, but in Abbotsford, Surrey and Langley etc, they have had ammo for as long as I've lived here. I actually cant recall any waljunk ive ever been to in B.C or Alberta that didnt have ammo. Usually not the greatest selection, but they usually have .30 06, .22, .308, .270, .223, .303brit, .30 30, .17hmr to name a few. as well they have assortments of shotgun rounds. never seen pistol rounds in any of them however.

Whats the big deal most Walmarts in BC sell rifle ammo...

Being an avid shooter and buying a lot of Wal-Mart ammo. I asked the store manager, who is also a range shooter, why there are no pistol calibers. Quite simple....a pistol can be hidden on a person, then ammo bought for it and shootings, robbery or such is readily available. Not many rifles can be hidden on a person and loaded instore. I do realize that there are .22 pistols but bigger calibers seem to be the demon. Perhaps as a safety precaution, the pistol ammo is not available. But store stock is up to the local demand and store staff decisions.

Did you point out to him that anyone buying rifle ammo, could have one in their car and come back in with it.

You cold also point out that Walmart USA has all calibers of ammo, and they have more guns and crime down there that we do. They don't seemed to be worried

That could happen at any ammo outlet, so does not necessarily pinpoint Wal-Mart. And not all stores stock the same calibers of ammo. Just what seems to sell at their particular area.
