Rem 700 AICS Shorty!

I am building another one froma surgeon action with 22 inchs 6.5mm barrel 1.200 straight for a 260AI. Looking forward getting all the part together.

This is mine. The action was also trued up by Gunboy.

For those of you who are running harris bipods.

Do you find that the bipod puts pressure on the plastic side panels instead of on the aluminum chassis ?

I tried a Harris bipod on my AICS stock and noticed that when i clamped it into place the side panels flexed.

I wasnt happy with this type of attachment so i am now running the Atlas bipod off the AICS Spigot. Seems alot more secure to me.

I don't seem to have that problem. I've used the AI bipod before, but I found it heavy, clunky and difficult to make pinpoint shots off of it as there is no swivel tension. I went back to the Harris BRM-S with pod-loc.

I'm no expert on precision rifles, however from what I have read and researched, a shorter barrel, only reduces velocity and not accuracy. There is a popular belief that shorter barrels actually increase accuracy, as the barrel is more rigid and less inclined to whip. I have also read that shorter barrels reduce barrel harmonics, but that is way to far into the physics department for me to understand. I can say that the Rem 700 20" LTR I previously owned was quite accurate with factory match ammunition. Considering that I rarely shoot beyond 300 yds, and that I was doing a bunch of other accurizing work to my rifle anyway, I felt that there was really no harm in reducing the barrel length. So to summarize, you'll have greater bullet drop due to decreased velocity, but should maintain or marginally improve the accuracy of your barrel. There are precision rifle gurus on this forum, that will surely know more about this than I, and my chime in at any time.

That was a good article, got to snipershide, the a guy whom shoot out to 1000yard with a 18" barrel, he did quite well.
