Ithaca model 37 Featherlight, Pros, cons?

Ithaca 37

personal preference Ithaca no contest. Pro smoother action, bottom ejection if you are a leftie(I am not), not shucking shells at anyone else in blind.
Cons harder to get parts for them if they break. (never had this problem) but things happen.
I have had two, both 16 guage full choke and used for duck hunting only.
I have Rem 870 Express and dont care for it that much but does not rust up if I dont get right to it after using in bad weather

If you buy the cheap aluminum hulled bulk ammo, you will have extraction problems. No problem taking off the barrel and prying it out though. I have 2 m37's, the one without the recoil pad doesn't get used as much. Great shotguns.

I have a 16 gauge model 37 I bought for $100. It has been through hell and back but I refinished it and now I am making a stock set for it. Very good quality guns. I have taken it apart many times. Great gun all around. I would recommend one any day.

Have used the Ithaca Model 37 duck hunting.Great smooth pumping shotgun .For myself I perfer it to the Remington Model 870 and the Winchester Model 12, both of which I have used.

I agree, I like the Ithaca because it has a smooth tight action. Sometimes the 870 feels kinda loose. The model 12 is nice too. I have the Ithaca 37, Winchester 12 and the 870 and they all are nice quality guns.

I read on another site that they're a bit of a hassle to clear if they jam, anybody have this problem?
I think I had one jam with a reload 1x in all the years I carried my Dad's duck and rabbit hunting as a teenager. As I recall I cleared it in a couple seconds, no big deal. On the plus side nice and light to carry and a pleasure to shoot. On the negative side parts and accesories not as available as Mossbergs or Remingtons. As others have stated be aware of the slam fire function.

I got my first 37 in 1956 at Eton's in downtown Toronto. I was 14 years old and I had to have my Mom with me.................Still have and have shot everthing from squirrels to deer with it. I'm leaving it to my Daughter as It was the first gun she fired and.....killed the damn coon too!!! Jim

37 all the way. I sold my wingmaster delux n kept my featherweight. No probs even spend a few hours on the bottom of a lake shoke it a few times reloaded n kept hunting. It has no bluing left but I've never handled a smoother gun. Slam firing flocks of starlings is fun to

I own both and my 870 12 ga. is what I call a heavy waterfowl gun for stationary shooting. My Ithaca 37 has a 24 inch barrel with a poly choke in 16 ga and is the very best light upland gun I have ever carried. It really makes the 870 seem like a huge heavy log in comparison.
