OK so i bought a Russian 53tula refurb and everything looks great except for the front sight. its leaning to the left. so if you hold the gun straight and look down from the butt stock you can clearly see its leaning quite a bit to the left. but the bayonet fits in good.. looking closely at the bayonet its all bent up and wacky.. would they have done this to allow the crapy beyonet to fit?

can you move the frontsight left and right around the barrel? or do those 2 pins only allow it to go on one way? which in my case is leaning to the left..

the funny thing is.. it looks as if the front sight pin is moved way over to compensate for the leaning.. i though being it was a refurb it just needed to be sighted in.. now noticing the leaning front sight.. i think it might be.. it looks f'in horid.. if this cant be fixed im genna be mighty upset with this gun!!

mainly i want to know if it can be moved.. and i mean the entire part along with the bayonet lug i need to move the entire thing to the right if you're looking from the stock. otherwise out comes the hammer! and a nasty letter!

any crazy ideas welcomed

If we go by previous threads on the SKS, that little "slanted front sight" might be a unique, rare and hard-to-find variation of the SKS, built by the Tula Custom Shop for southpaws or wrong eye dominant or WHY, and therefore highly collectible.:D

Seriously, the bent bayonet was a bubba fix by the refurb tech. I suppose you could twist the front sight into proper position if you heat the band/barrel.

Anyway, there's always the EE.

lol ya that's where i got.. and it was apparently "HAND SELECTED"... i guesse i should have asked if he was cross eyed first.. geez

but why would anybody bend the freakin sight to allow a bayonet to sit right.. doesn't make sense at all.. the sight is much more important.. or maybe the sight was bent and he bent the beyonet in place.. either way.. im very disapointed in a surtain fellow who sells alot of SKS's in the EE.. who i gave good feedback mind you, right away before going over the gun good enought.. i wont mention his name but he HAND SELECTS his rifles!! more like orders a crapy investors pack.. hand selects the crate with the nicest wood i guesse... im sure you guys can figure it out.. HAND SELECTS... LAFF

I think the Front Sight Assembly was not properly aligned when originally fit onto the barrel. The Front Sight Assembly is shrunk fit onto the barrel.

You can rotate the whole assembly, not bend or twist it, by heating around the sight band that wraps around the barrel, to expand the sight ring and allow it to rotate without bending.

If you rotate the assembly in the correct direction to center the offset sight post, do you think your bayonet (assuming it is straight) will fit its corresponding slot in the stock? If so, it is safe to assume that nothing is bent and and simple rotation of the FSA will solve the sight misalignment problem.

Two of my SKSs have this off-center front post as well, but the assembly looks reasonably straight. The bayos are straight and they fit their slots perfectly too. It is a cheap mass produced military rifle so even if the off-center front posts can be annoying, these SKS shoot straight enough for me.

ahh ok.. your at least making feel a little better about it hehe..

going to shoot it this weekend. im guessing it well shoot straight. its just so damn ugly. and its really distracting bringting up to the eye.. that heating method you mentioned sounds good. and easy!

its actualy looks as if the bayo was bent to fit in its slot compensating for the misaligned sight

should i remove those 2 pins before attempting this?

thanks for you're help btw Easy

I would contact the seller and send them some pics and see if they will exchange it, that is unnacceptable. If its as bad as you make it sound, I doubt you can get it sighted in properly, and the bent bayo will be tough to straighten. Its best to contact the seller instead of mess with it and screw up the chance to return it, unless youre confident you can fix it and really want to.

ya i would send it back.. but that adds 50$ in transit fees. and i know the seller aint genna pay it.. that would blow his profit plus more. 50 is a quarter of the price of the gun lol.

if its fixable id be a happy camper.. i'm hoping Easy's method works. those pins on the lug just led me to believe the lug only has one way to fit on and i'd have to bend it to get the sight arm straight..

the bayo can die for all im concerned.. i only care about the front sight. replace the bayo for 10$ no harm done

im adding pics tonight.. at work at the moment

You are welcome. You have to remove the two pins. Check this link for removal/lossening instructions. You may be correct in that the two pins may not allow you to rotate the assembly, only one way to find out.:D
