45 acp enfields

OK, so I've a couple questions.

1. Are .45 ACP and .303 Brit the same size as far as the Rim Diameter goes? I'm just assuming this do to the lack of bolt in the kit.

2. How does the .45 ACP round perform in longer barrels and what are the ballistics at longer ranges?

3. Could a guy use the full wood forestock parts with this kit?

I was thinking about how cool a rifle in .45 would be a wile ago but ever really understood why.:p

Thanks.

the threads on the No1 and No4 rifles are the same, however as I understand the barrels will index 180deg if you try to swap one.

with the barrel nut it should not matter, just have to cut a new extractor slot (if this version has one)

also 45acp rim is smaller then the 303 but it is the same size as the 308 so if you have an enfield 308 extractor your good to go.

This sounds like a great idea to me as I have an Enfield that has a pitted barrel that I'm hesitant to shoot. This would give the old girl life again.

There are lots of really ruined, bubba'd Lee Enfields available cheap. Great project rifles.

Here is another thought:
9mm (.38 Super, etc.) 1911 magazines would fit the magazine adapter.....

As far as minimum barrel length, minimum overall length goes, be careful - there are four, maybe five lengths of Lee Enfield buttstocks. Set up a minimum carbine with a Long butt, install a Short or a Bantam, and the carbine could become prohibited.

No....308 diameter

I have not shot one....YET

Would require some work but anything is possible with enough time and/or money

I can't see anything in the various EE forums yet. Not sure if I'm missing it or it's not there yet.

How much of the work do you intend to do? Do we send you a barreled action and you send it back with the mag conversion and new barrel with front sight installed? I take it that it's up to us to find a sporter stock for it?

has anyone got info on what a good barrel length will be for 45acp? I'd prefer a shorter barrel around 12" offhand, but could live with 15".

Its under the parts section search for "enfield". At the prices listed it is a parts kit only, purchaser will need to assemble and finish

Found the ad, thanks.

I guess my concern now is the lack of a front sight on the barrel. What's involved installing a lee enfield style front sight? Any idea what that would cost? Is this something you can do?

Front sight - bit of lathe work - take a No. 4 front sight base, and bore it out until it can be pressed onto the barrel. Use a bonding agent or soft solder. If the cuts for the lugs are a problem, solder the base onto a scrap .303 muzzle, then bore the whole thing out.
Removing the issue .303 barrel is going to be the hardest part of the rebarrelling. No. 4 barrels can be a pig to remove. Installation spec. was 120 ft pounds of torque, and after 65 plus years.....
.45 cases made from .22-.250/.308/.30-06, whatever, will have a problem of being too thick in the neck and would need to be reamed. .45GAP - Glock Auto Pistol - is just a shortened ACP.
And remember, no one cuts up an as issued or restorable rifle to make one of these conversions. Get a ratty bubba'd sporter.
With a N (Normal) butt, length of pull is 13 inches, distance from buttplate to breech of barrel is 19". If overall length is to exceed 26", the barrel can be pretty short.

I am considering turning the bbl to .920 then using this on my own:

Below is what is involved in the full conversion. Like tiriaq mentioned, the hardest part is getting your bbl off.
