It's probably been asked a thousand times, I'm just too lazy to look in all the old threads. After seeing those Garand pics Hungry posted, I was sorta drooling. Where can one get hold of a nice rifle here in Canada (since the US are silly about allowing us big bad Canadians buy one down there)?

EE worked for me

I was very jealous at the Calgary Clinic we were at as the gentleman in the corner had a Garand. I was considering a Garand and kept missing them when they showed up on the EE or the local shops while I made up my mind. They do pop up, but they go quick so figure out which one you want and jump at it. I did, and I love mine. 43 Springfield

I used to have one but sold it for cheap on the EE. good deals come up and they get snapped up quick keep checking the EE often and you will come across one.

I sold it to buy a black rifle... I do miss it but having a modern tacticool rifle is way better :D

As it happens, I have a buddy who has 3 of those things and he has asked me to yard them off to the gunshow circuit this spring and try to sell them for him. I havent picked them up yet so don't know the year of manufacture..if part #s are matching etc, but will know soon. He apparently has 2 springfield models standard version I guess (these things aren't my bag). He is old enough to have brought them home with him direct from the battlefield!! He also has what he describes as a sniper model with scope/case, and mount. in any event I will be hauling these around to the Chilliwack, Calgary, and Kamloops gunshows..(and maybe a few smaller ones in between)

Out of the 4 manufacturers I know of which is the most collectable? I don't mean Google collectable. I mean what would be your most desireable make?

Springfield Armory?
Winchester?
Harrington & Richardson?
International Harvester?

And why?

They are collectible for different reasons:

Springfield and Winchester WW2 dated are the most desirable. Harrington and International Harvester are post WW2 Korean War era. Still very nice rifles.

Then you have the Italian garands not as collectible but still excellent shooters.

MilArm has one for $1400...

I checked it out. An International Harvester they rate Excellent for $1400. But it says .308Win. So it's either a rebarreled job or has the adapter in place to use .308? As a once country boy I'd have to say that the International Harvesters would be the most collectable! My tractor and my M1 Garand made by the same company. How cool is that?

That COULD be a US Navy rebuild job. IIRC somebody (can't remember who) converted some 50,000 Garands to 7.62 for the USN.

They're out there, just need to look. Just rescued another Garand from bubba. This IHC was found sitting in a plastic stock but other than that was all IHC marked (except for the barrel). Was missing a few parts, now all ready to go.
