Where to Buy An M1 Garand?

They're out there, just need to look. Just rescued another Garand from bubba. This IHC was found sitting in a plastic stock but other than that was all IHC marked (except for the barrel). Was missing a few parts, now all ready to go.

....that's beautiful....

Can you put a value on nice example like this one for us?

Anyone or everyone? How much?

glad I grabbed mine when I did...$800 for a '42 Win. reciever and '44 SA bbl, Win bolt, SA trigger group and Breda hg's. Not exactly what the US Government payed for it but I love it just as well. Is Milarm typically out to lunch with prices? a friend of mine in Edmonton tells me they want $300 for an M44?

Just on principle, a Garand with X-receiver and Y-bolt and Z-oprod and A-hammer and B-barrel is a junk pile to me. If it's not all the same then what's the point in collecting it? I guess it's a shooter but can it still be a real Garand? Or would it be a 1944,45,47,52,54 XYZAB US Rifle?

MilArm has one for $1400...

I know I saw that one...it was the chopped one in 308. I want 30-06 and has to be shootable, as that is what I want it for. There were a couple I was looking at, but one had the barrel shot out and the other was pitted and had a really, really sloppy bolt. So I'm kinda picky on that front.

Thanks all for the great comments, and ya..still looking! :p

hi everyone, like the original poster, in the market for an M1. Seems like they are quite difficult to find in Canada.

First question: What is EE that everyone keeps talking about?

Second question: has anyone tried importing one from this site? http://www.thecmp.org/

1. EE is the equipment exchange towards the bottom of the index on these forums. Check "exchange of military surplus rifles".

2. The CMP does not sell to non-US citizens or export out of the US.

The CMP is for US citizens only. I have not checked to see if the Garand is on the export ban yet. I have been busy beating the bushes for them up here.

They turn up from time to time, most at auction or through friendly connections. There a a shipment supposed to be coming from Europe to one of the site sponsors, but time will tell if it actually materializes.

Virtually all Garands in US service were rebuilt or overhauled at least once and will contain parts which are not original to the rifle or made by the original manufacturer. All parts, regardless of maker, were interchangeable and were swapped out as required during military service. They are very much real Garands in spite of this. I have owned 50 Garands over the years and only had 2 that were all original when I got them. With patience you can restore most rifles to their original parts configuration, given an original receiver and barrel combination.

And the nice thing about trying to put a rifle back in original parts config as the parts you change out can be sold pretty easy. I've been doing that with a 54 IH.

Not to hijack from the OP but I saw a Garand on the weekend that seemed fairly original except the receiver was almost a plum colour not blued or parked. The gas block/front sight looked to be polished stainless any ideas or just Bubba

The gas tubes are stainless steel type metal. That is why they are tough to keep a finish on. They have a blackening from the factory but it does not last long. I typically epoxy primer mine.

Springfield M1 Garand's are the ones to get. They were the original designer of this rifle. The Italian rifles are great because they were built using 1950's steel, a great improvement over the 1940's. A lot of the Danish M1's were very close to matching when you could find them. I helped Allen Lever with them and bought many matching guns.

WTB....M1 garand...I have 2000 dollars and not afraid to spend it!!

There.... this is how you buy a M1 Garand

It's probably been asked a thousand times, I'm just too lazy to look in all the old threads. After seeing those Garand pics Hungry posted, I was sorta drooling. Where can one get hold of a nice rifle here in Canada (since the US are silly about allowing us big bad Canadians buy one down there)?

Wanting to buy Garand

Sigh!

Looking for a reliable shooter, the collector part is secondary. I already have an M14 and a BAR in 30-06, just want to add one to my collection without breaking the bank and worrying that my #### will fall off after shooting a coupla hundred rounds with my "new" M1.

The saga continues.
