Range Report: Ruger 10/22 vs Savage Mark II

IMO this VS is totally not fair to the 10-22, It is fair to use a slingshot to VS a 10-22. I had a 10-22 and it put a smile on my face when the day I sold it. The worst semi auto rifle design ever.

well i would have gladly traded you a sling shot for a 10/22!

opinions are like A-holes, everyones got one, and they all stink!

First of all, nice groups with both.
Secondly, where can you buy a new Savage Mk II for $209?
And now the savage Mark II. This is the bottom line Mark II ($209) with the sporter barrel and a $50 Simmons scope. I only took one group with this rifle as it seems to illustrate the point well. I used Winchester bulk 500 box ammo for this rifle. It shoots sub-MOA.

Finally, this is the ruger 10/22 with the same scope. This is the absolute BEST grouping I could get with this gun out of 15 using various ammo. I don't know how ANYONE can claim the 10/22 is even a remotely accurate rifle in stock form. If the bullseye in these pictures is a gopher's head, I sure as hell wouldn't want that 10/22!

Wholesale sports is where I got mine. Still the same price on their website. I bought it from the south side store in Edmonton though.

yeah, i don't much care for bolt guns in general (the only two i own are single shot family antiques that were given to me), but if they all shoot like this, i might buy one. i've even got a few spare scopes sitting around!

If you guys like that grouping then get a savage in .17 HMR like i did. My groups at 200 yards are the size of a toonie with an off shore 4-12x50mm. I have a rufer SR-22 and I use it to spray paper but for gophers and longer fun it is the Savage all the way, the accu trigger is a gem.

How would the Remington Model Five rate compared to the Savage? WSS has it for $220 and it has a nice looking wood stock. The Savage groups speak for themselves, but I'm curious if anyone's had similar results with the Five.

Voxx, well, that rifle is actually a rebranded Zastava. It has a lot of trigger creep and it seems to group at .75" at 50 yards. Far inferior to the savage in my experience.

Ive heard time and time again the Model five in 22 mag is very, very accurate and it doesnt take much to improve the trigger.

Love how I post a picture of a bone stock 10/22 doing very well (for a semi) and no one says s**t.
Thread ender, I guess.

All I saw was a bunch of blue circles on a piece of paper with what looked like a bunch of hole spoked in it with a push pin.......

:D

I own the savage (in a HB)

I own several 10-22s (4 at last count)

I spent close to $800 to get a 10-22 to shoot close to what my Savage does.

Now that said, I have 2 10-22s that in bone stock form (other than a tuffer buffer and a VQ extractor) will group under 1" @ 75y. Both are older than 1991.

Comparing the 2 together is quite literaly apples and oranges IMHO.

Hardly. first, that looks rather....not authentic. If it is, sorry, but you've definitely got an outlier there. It's absolutely not typical for the 10/22.

The internet is wonderful, isn't it?
You better elaborate before calling someone out. That's a real scumbag move, to say it isn't real, then provide zero facts. Other then to say 10/22's don't do that.

Says a lot, i'm wasting my time.

I tested 15 different rounds, of the 15 I ended up with 5-6 that works well in it.
People need to test their gun, with other rounds then fed bulk pack. If you're having problems seeing it, bottom right corner - click it.

Notsorichguy kind of alluded to it first jokingly but I think he's right.

either those are push pin holes or that piece of paper is about 10 feet wide and each of his letters is about 3 inches tall...

Anyway, like I said, even if real, that's an outlier.

...and that shows no scale whatsoever. From the size of the bullet holes, I'd say those groups are about 2 inches apart. Except for the stinger which is odd b/c it's the least accurate ammo made. Unless of course those .22 are actually somehow .002 diameter :p

There's no scale of any kind so it's impossible to tell anything.

Maybe he could provide a close view with a ruler or tape measure present?

I'm just saying it looks very odd, that's all.

Apparently, it's shot at 50 yards which is actually not looking very good for that range. I get tighter grouping with my savage at 100 yards...

As I said earlier on, I've tried a lot of different ammo in this gun. That's the best grouping I could get out of 15. I hope you read that before posting.

Wow, you attacked me because of my post count or join date? I'm sure you know that means nothing. Obviously I just started in this sport the moment I sighned up for this site

Thankfully shooters ridge are releasing a 25 round mag for marlins in April/may which ought to boost sales of the 795. Considering you can get ATI tactical stocks and soon 25 rounders for a model 795... I think anyone in their right mind would buy that over a 10/22 unless you want a money pit of a gun. Also the rugers are everywhere and the EE is perpetually saturated with them meaning they instantly lose value as soon as you open the box if you buy a new one. It's an illogical investment IMHO.
??? How about, no matter how horrible that ruger shoots, It's still an overpriced fixer upper out of the box... What the hell? Savage has good QC and produces well built guns that consistantly shoot great from gun to gun. What you said makes no sense.

OK mikeystew we understand that you really like the marlins and you dont like the ruger , but the marlin will never have the aftermarket parts like the ruger 10/22 . Sure you are gona say that marlin dosent need them because they are so accurate and the best rifle out there and the coolest and that is fine. People buy a 10/22 for the fun they are and that fact that you can add unlimited parts and bits and turn it into the gun the owner wants it to be . As far as loosing money on them ,good luck with that , I have had over 20 of them over the years and have always got what I have put into them . For the marlin they will hold there value as well, I have one sitting in the safe as well and thats where it stays , I even had 25 round mags for it too and it still sits in the safe , Why because I find that 10/22's are a hell of alot more fun in my opinion.

"authentic" what would you have him do ? take it to a notery and have a stamp on it to say it is authentic? Video?, Jury?, What ?

How many 10/22's have you owned ,Honestly how many ? your statement sounds like you are an expert on them ?
I am not trying to sound like a prick , but I like to hear the facts
