Clip is the correct term in this case. Mannlicher-type fixed magazines use clips as an integral part of the feed system.

And my Garand would fling them nearby after the last road was fired, complete with a musical "ping"

I like the concept.
Now just add a lever to the bottom to make it like a Magpul BAD Lever, and you have one seriously slick system going.
Bad Lever = Fast bolt release
Firearm Control Device = Fast malfunction clearance, while still allowing proper operation of any individual component.
