I finally got some good weather and got a chance to take the SVT-40 to the range. I was using the original iron sights with the rear one set at 100 yards.
I'm very impressed with the accuracy of this rifle right out of the box. I used to be a great shot, but I wear reading glasses now. This makes the rear sight blurry to me. These are 4 round groups because I pulled the first shot on both groups.
I fired 60 shots with the gas regulator set at 1.5. and had 2 empty casings get caught by the bolt carrier. Easy to clear. The recoil is mild with no noticeable muzzle jump like my SKS's. Ammo was MFS non corrosive FMJ 185gr.
I'm really happy with the results and will experiment with lower gas settings next time out. edit: The gas setting was at 1.3
