So I emailed thureon...

i like the thureon over the jr aside from one thing... looks like it takes it's own mags therefore i'm assuming they would be pinned to 5 and be expensive. the JR with the cheap 10 round glock mags gives it the edge in my mind

Yes, we are working toward selling our carbines in Canada.

We hope to get you Canadians 1.) a carbine classified as "un-restricted" and 2.) a pistol, both certified by the RCMP.

Hang on, it is a process. We'll get there, sooner or later. (sooner is BETTER than later.....)

You're probably right about that. Still, I think a "pistol" version would be interesting to see, especially in a barrel length similar to some of those 9mm AR shortys out there.

Not so fast. Look at what happened to the M&P-15/22 and the Chiappa M4 .22. Pistol versions taking the same mags as the rifles, and they got hit with the lower mag capacity, despite it being rimfire.

They might decide that the pistol version only gets a 5 round mag in this case, UNLESS they mark the mags "FOR PISTOL USE ONLY."

Those rimfires were limited to 10 rounds only because they are pistols. Rifle mags would have had no limit. This is the one case when being a pistol sucks for mag limits.

This is a center fire, so those examples don't mean two ####s. This carbine can only have 5 round or 10 round mags, that's it. We have everything to gain and nothing to loose by having them classed as pistol mags.

I think it can actually, but dont quote me on that. I know it works most reliably with the magazines that have been designed for it (the uzi ones).

I hope someone can import these carbines hint hint
 
i will have to not do that lol its ugly and has a bad reputation. I would sooner get a kel tec sub 2000. but of course they have reportedly fixed the previous problems with the JR.

Even though uzi "pistols" do exist, uzi magazines of all types are capped at 5 rounds as per the magazine control regulations:
PROHIBITED DEVICES​

Former Cartridge Magazine Control Regulations

3. (1) Any cartridge magazine

(a) that is capable of containing more than five cartridges of the type for which the magazine was originally designed and that is designed or manufactured for use in

(vi) the firearm of the design commonly known as the UZI pistol, and any variant or modified version of it, including the Micro-UZI pistol

Therefore, any "uzi" magazines that would come with it would be limited to 5 rounds, no matter what.
 
here it is on their website, it takes ar 15 9mm mags:


"The Thureon Defense carbine is made to use most magazines designed for the Colt AR-15 9mm carbine. We have tested aftermarket magazines from C-Products, ProMag Industries, Rock River Arms, and USA Magazines. They all work, but some work very well, some work fairly well, and the rest work just OK. Please note that magazines from any of those sources require modification as described below.



The magazines supplied with our carbines are modified 32 round Uzi mags. We cut the necessary release notch in the side of the magazine body and a relief in the back of the magazine for the Lula Loaders, and we reform the follower so that the bolt doesn’t ride over the rim of the last couple of rounds. We also grind a little material off of the ejection-side feed lip to reduce interference with the ejecting empty cartridges. These modifications result in a magazine that outperforms anything else we have tested.



We will modify any magazines to be used in our carbines for $15.00 each, plus shipping. If you have or find a stash of Uzi mags, send them to us and we will make them work for you."

so we could get ten rounders then right?
