Pistol Suggestions for Young Son

Hey All,

My boy, who will be 7 this summer has been shooting his Henry Mini Bolt for about a year, and loves it.

I was thinking of getting him into shooting .22 pistol as well, which he would absolutely love. Now, Ruger makes a dandy little single action called a Bearcat. It is the perfect fit for his hand, and single action, which I want. But, ithe local guy wants $550 for it... which is a little more than I want to spend.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on what would be a good, small frame pistol that is somewhat more affordable... or do I bite the bullet, save up, and get him the Bearcat as a surprise?
 
How about a Heritage Arms?
I want one, or two...

I see they now offer a .32 H&R Magnum.
Is that prohibited too, or is it just the .32ACP?
 
I noticed a single action Chiappa 1873 Peace Maker in 22 rimfire on Frontiers website, and Kodiak Outpost has rimfire revolvers called Rough Riders. I haven't handled either, just pointing out lower priced options. Are you only looking for single action revolvers?

Yes... well, I suppose a double action revolver would work as well, but the more mechanical steps the better. I have a Buckmark URX Practical, but I don't want him shooting an auto loader yet, and I think the grips would be a little big.
 
My vote goes Beretta neos also. Nice small grips, great quality. I enjoy shooting it so much it goes with me to the range every time.
 
This is what really irks me about the Canadian gun laws. Many of the little 12.6 .22LR are ideal HG's for kids.
 
I have handled the bearcat and man it is a very beautiful single action and very small size, $500's is not much compared to many other guns. another good choice is Ruger 2245, not too heavy and is nice shooter.

Buckmark Camper at about 330 is a nice .22 semi

the Norinco m93 at 150 is smaller, and cheaper made, sharper edges on the mags etc.
check out the buckmark, it is a bit large....for a kid, but much better quality than the Norinco.

I have one of each.
 
Put a WTB on the EE for a high standard sentinel deluxe. You should be able to snag one for no more than $250. Great little plinker. Small grip, 9 shot, light weight frame. Will last him a few years of growth to boot.

Passed mine on to my son, when I got my 17.

And now that I'm thinking of it, I kind of miss it:(

I wish I had a Glock 22 when I was 8. Oh well, guess I will have to settle for getting one at 32. :)
 
Thanks for the input fellas. I am really not interested in an auto for him yet. I will however, spend some time looking into the Heritage Arms Rough Rider and the Chiappa, although a preliminary look makes me thing they are larger than the Ruger. Thanks for the suggestions!
