12 Gauge Slugs - worth reloading?

OK at my local range, the main range only allows slugs. So at $5.99 a box of 5 only, Is it feasible to lead say 10z 2 3/$" educed recoil slugs? or even full load slugs?

Suggestions by anyone who has tried?

Yeah you sure can. I use trap hulls and wads, wheel weight lead in Lee molds and a Lee Load All II. 4 cent primer, 16 or so cents powder, new wad and usedd hull.
 
Loading slugs is easy & cheap. I have the lee 1oz slug mould & the Lee Loadall press for 12ga. Using Winchester WAA12 wads & Herco powder in once fired hulls, cost me around $.20 a shell. Definitely worth it if you plan on shooting a lot of slugs.

Start loading... I load Lee 1oz slugs, 00 buck, and .690 round balls for 12G at about .20 cents each cast from a mix of pure lead and wheel weights. Load data is included with the slug mould but you have to work up a round ball load or search around and find one that sounds reasonable to get started. Either way it's a cheap way to shoot a lot of slugs and you can adjust the loads to get the velocity or recoil you want.

how much is a butt load?
do you have any friends or family with something outside or a balcony?
do u have a loader or loadall2?
I might be able to help, I have the 7/8oz mold, I have close to pure lead. PM me if u would like and Ill see what I can do. In the lower mainland?
 
Yes i have friends with balcony but to find time and have to pour at there place is carzy, i shoot BP 50 cal and i just simply buy the round balls.

I will be picking up a New Lee Load All II next week. (love my lee1000pro)

So how much for say a batch of 100 at a time? Oh in Richmond, BC hehe
 
K dont want to hijack this but have to....need more info...:p I was looking at the load all 2 for doing the same thing with slugs.I used to load all my shotshells on one but when I could buy a box of shotshells or under 5 bucks it wasnt worth it and sold it. Fast forward 20 years and here I am now.

Picked up 200 1 oz. cast slugs from a fellow CGN member and want to load them up for gophers....so question...the load all 2 doesnt do a roll crimp from what i can remember so use a 6 or 8 segment crimp? I was looking at just using winchester low wall brass...good or bad in a 2 3/4 inch load. Not really interested in a 3 inch load but who knows at this point in time...

Also good starting points for powders would be great. I have a gift cert for wholesale sports with lots of room on it and will be in Edmonton on Tuesday and would love to use it up...oh and for primers also? 209"s work??

I have not fired one of these yet, but assuming the wad is ok for it you can push the crimp in first (just hull powder and wad) like a roll crimp and press the slug in after achieving a similar fit.

I have fired them with the star crimp as Lee recommends.

209 primers should work for all shotgun shells save some brass types that take rifle or pistol primers.

I've been using low brass without any problems.
209 primer
22 grains of unique powder
1 oz Lee slug
White wad with the petals cut back about 3/4 of the way

I've never done any super accuracy tests, but they put big holes in things.

I can't speak for the Lee Loadall. You can borrow my Mec 600jr and bring it back the next time you're in town. It's just clamped to my bench, so its no trouble. Some crimps are a lot better looking than others, but I haven't played with it much to get used to it.

The fella,s name in here is....Bluemike807. I got 200 slugs shipped to me from him down east( NFLD.or Scotia) for like 60 bucks or so. He has a add up and running in the ee forum under the reloading thing or factory ammo.He likes to do casting and the slugs look just great also...I highly recommend him and his work.

THX Sir...I am gonna grab a load all2 on tuesday and give it a try with your recipe for disaster:p I have some unique here already so just need a few primers and wads to complete it. I really want this for the upcoming gopher season...:ar15:
 
So I grabbed a load all11...in 20guage today,thats all they had and for a conversion kit for 25 bucks I wasnt gonna drive all across edmonton looking for a 12 guage press to do it with. Bag of white wads was like 7 bucks or so,pound of unique about 26 bucks,fibre wads for underneath the slugs...bout 7 bucks,100 primers...3 bucks and now I am set up to try this...oh ya and the best part was the lyman shotshell reloading manual...it was about 28 bucks or so but it will get me up and running big time...
