I just got back from the Renfrew gun show. There were the usual guys asking $950 for a Norc SKS with about $250 with of Made In China tacticool crap on it, but there were somne half decent prices too.
I picked up a Tula SKS with birch stock; I figured I saved about $30-$50 over ordering it over the net. I also picked up 200 rounds of 7.62x39 for $4/box cash.
When I was looking at it, there was no cosmo on the outside; it was all nice and clean. That is waht I usually see unless they are pulling it out of a crate for the show (kids seem to love the crates of guns
). Well, I got home and got the trigger lock off it; the guy left the cheap trigger lock on it that takes the 2 prong key, but I had no key, so out came the needlenose pliers. When I got it apart I was let down; the entier inside of the gun was squeeky clean with a light coat of gun oil over everythign. I was all set to start the time honoure process of digging cosmo out of it for the next 3 months (always seem to miss a spot), but got off easy.
I told my buddy that was there with me that I am a bvit suprised. I paid less for this gun than my buddy did for his Norc 11 years ago with crappy stock and the bayo lug cut off before coming into the country. The machining is much bettrer than the Norcs; I assumed it was just hype to sell them when they came in, but they really are better.
