JR Carbine Unboxing, Firing & Takedown Videos

Man, if winter doesn't end soon I'm going to end up with a whole house full of Magpul gear. Thanks again to blaxsun for the great service!

I'm really liking the foliage. Very subdued color, plus it brings out the green in my eyes.

Balance is much better with a bit of extra weight in the rear. Hopefully it'll still be enough if a shroud or fake can is slid onto the barrel.

One thing to mention if anyone else goes the UBR route...there is a rubber plug topped by a nylon spacer in the factory tube that need to be pushed out and used in the tube supplied with the UBR for proper function. Not too big of a deal, but the rubber plug was pretty tight in mine.

I dropped a line at Neit about threading the barrel and adding various brakes as a package deal.

Oooo...that would be nice. Not that there's a lot of recoil, but a brake never hurts.

Unless you're standing beside it of course. :)

I've noticed there seems to be a threading difference between 9mm and .223...is that so nobody will screw something with a 5.56mm size hole onto a barrel that is going to have a 9mm sized bullet coming out of it?

Farmer Harv,
Would you feel infringed upon if I Magpuled my JR in the same foliage green? Not the same accessories mind you. My Tac21 already wears the Flat Dark Earth Magpul fashions.

Getting a few FTE/stovepipes with mine, I noticed that when the bolt is pulled back it doesn't travel all the way to the end of the track. Is this normal for others? Or is the length of travel in the buffer tube obstructed somehow? If another owner could check theirs to see if the bolt handle pulls all the way to the circular cut out at the back it would be much appreciated.

The bolt is stopped from going all the way to the rear by a plug in the buffer tube. Presumably so that you can't remove the bolt handle through the cutout, have the bolt slam ahead under spring pressure and then have to take the buffer tube off anyways to get the handle back in.

I'm also getting the occasional stovepipe still. I thought it was mag related, but it will happen randomly with all of my mags. I have a new theory as to why it's happening, but need to get a decent camera set up on a tripod to verify it. Looking at the forecast, it might even happen this weekend. :)

My stovepipes aren't the average ones where the bolt closes on the empty shell. The spent case gets caught between the top of the receiver and the new round being stripped from the mag. Sound like same for you Farmer Harv?

Yep, that sounds exactly like the ones I had. However, I just went out and fired off three different mags with the AE 115gr that seem to give the most problems, and all 30 rounds functioned & ejected perfectly. I've made a couple of changes since the last time I fired the rifle, and either they worked to stop the stovepipes, or I just got lucky here. Need to do some more shooting tomorrow to verify all is well, but for now here is the chain of events:

- First try brand new rifle with CCI Blazer aluminum cased 115gr: no problems.
- Try some AE 115gr and have some stovepiping. Blame KCI mags, and the problem seems to go away.
- Install a 2 stage trigger, find out it won't work with the JR, remove. Do the 15 minute trigger job as found on the 'net, run into random/rare stovepipes and a few light primer strikes.
- Polish up the trigger parts some more, screw up the job, order a new single stage trigger. Install it with the modified springs and still have occasional problems.
- Install springs from the new trigger kit, and stick a little piece of foam on the front of the trigger guard to keep a wee bit of forward pressure on the mag.
- Fire 30 rounds of AE 115gr today with no problems at all.

Interesting. Tomorrow I'll try it without the foam pad to see if that's it.

Only put 50 rounds through mine after nothing more than a patch down the bore. Dry lube the bolt today and will try some more. I'm shooting 124gr AE, I got about 7 stovepipes in the first 50 with the glock mag it came with. I'm going to give it 2-3 hundred rounds before I start tinkering.
