My Match Fee Formula

One way to help keep the match fees down is to HELPwith setting up, officiating and take-down intead of showing up, shooting and scooting, expecting someone else to patch and reset steel. If there were enough helpers, MDs would not have to factor in incentives for the few that work their a***s off so you can have a good time. My two cents worth on the subject.

While I strongly believe that free market, supply/demand is the only proper way to regulate the price of anything, it seems that for some people match fee constitute a significant amount. We should realize that there are 2 types of people involved in this sport: those who have more time than money, and those who are opposite (and of course some are somewhere in between).
I think it is a good idea to introduce some kind of 2-tier fee system, with reduced fee for people who are willing to dedicate some time for helping to set up or run match, and higher fee for those who want to "shoot and scoot". I know some clubs already use this, providing some fee reduction in return for some volunteered time, and I think this is a great way to ensure that enough help is available for the match. Maybe if all clubs used this - there would be no need for "mandatory volunteering", which I greatly dislike.

I concur with iouri......

I am a HUGE free enterprize fan.........heck FREEEDOM at all levels is vital for me.

Let the Clubs set their rates where they fall and be done with it.

As with Mario there are some clubs that I used to shoot at that I do not as I did not feel I was getting value for money. Likewise there are some that I do not shoot at due to political differences. And there is even one that I do not shoot at for BOTH!! LOL!

At EESA we always cut down or eliminate as many fees for our worker bees as possible. I just cannot stomach not doing so for people who often skip a days income to help set up matches.

This is a prime example of what is wrong in IPSC. It's a volunteer sport plain and simple.

Offering a free match fee for some people to take of a day or two of work to set up...and spend the entire week-end away from the family working the match so you can shoot and scoot...is a pretty one sided affair.

What we need is for the bulk of our members to get off their asses and help out...

What he said!;)
That is what I did as a match director @ Barrie and it worked well.
As we know, not all match directors have this point of view.
I am not saying that this is the solution but it did work for me.

:confused:Hockey, Baseball, Football, ..... all pay officials and the help in one way or a another.(even house league). Goalies in hockey are paid to stay on with other teams or given free ice time just to show up. We should look at the other sports and see what they are doing right and apply it to our sport.

This is the bitter reality and may be one of the reasons why we are not growing.
Sometimes you get what you pay for and that may include the help that you get.

Making people work and trying to keep things equal, is this not a Socialist view?
I thought that there is no room for Socialism in shooting.

I think this system of rewarding your help works very well with other sports and organizations. Nagging people to get off there asses and help, well it is not really appealing to most people and if I wanted to get nagged, I'll stay home and listen to the wife and complete the "honey do list".

What he said to.

I wonder how much a match would cost, say a lvl 2, if all RO's, MD's, Stats person, patcher's were paid?........Like $120-$150 a person.....probably get lots of people out then!

I do not think so.
Giving match discounts and lunch and such will be offset by being able to process more shooters. I am not talking about giving them cash directly.
Patchers are not paid but should be done by your own squad. You know better than that.;)

Not growing...emotionally

IPSC Ontario had over 900 members as of 02 April...so the membership is growing year over year...

At this rate it should be well over 1100 by the fall.

The numbers have not changed for the last 10 years. We have had stayed at about 1000 members for over 10 years.
Did you not tell me this yourself one time.
We are maintaining our numbers but not growing.

We were well over 1100 last year, we are currently at 911 and there are lots that don't renew until after the outdoor season starts, add to that the 200 or so that we may put through BB courses this year and we could possibly hit 1200 or more...that's the largest numbers for members I can recall.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It will annoy the pig and frustrate you. :D

So, in 2001 we were @ 1000 or so. Right now we are @ 911 and we may hit 1200.
With growth like that we may replace hockey as the national sport!
It is mean of me to say but I think we can do better.

The other side of that coin is what do we do with those extra people, matches right now fill in moments of opening, we need more matches and matches run more efficiently to handle bigger numbers...

No...that's not correct. Bud did a detailed analysis of the numbers a few years ago...

Membership was approx 700 in 2002...and has been on the rise ever since. Ontario was just under 1,000 in mid 2006. The numbers are up...

Well, when you said:

I took that to mean that you wanted to start paying all officials and workers at a match! Even Lvl 1 and 2's....you don't see how that could raise match costs substantially!
