My Match Fee Formula

The other side of that coin is what do we do with those extra people, matches right now fill in moments of opening, we need more matches and matches run more efficiently to handle bigger numbers...

Even so matches fill in quick at the opening, I am pretty sure there is hardly any match without no-shows in one or more squads. Right now this information is just not available to IPSC Ontario.

I'm not sure how that helps the situation. If someone doesn't pull out of the match via the online signup...that slot probably won't be filled unless someone just shows up and takes a chance of being able to walk-on (to a match that would have been shown on the online sign-up to be full. )

I think I recall the EESA guys having this very discussion last year...match sold out...people were a no show (but didn't pull out of the match via the online system) and those slots didn't fill...despite the fact that there was a waiting list.

What decision?

I am just saying there are several slots unfilled practically at every match, so if someone want to shoot he can take those slots. I am not even talking about slots that haven't been freed up (can't see those online), but slots that are released in a day or so before the match and not taken. My theory is that lot of people just don't know how waiting list works...

Match Fee's
There are so many variables its hard to calculate?

Mostly matches that don't make money are frowned upon by other members who give up their usable range time to allow you to have them?

Remember its not just the match days but often the weekend before because of workers timetables for setup?

So think of it like, a non IPSC member I give up shooting 2 weekend for what??

For Level I and II matches we are making the stage set ups waaaaay to complicated for what we need to do. Proper use of fault lines, boxes and stage descriptions can cut down quite a bit of the work. We don't need to build a house, we just need some vision barriers, fault lines and description of what the shooters can and cannot do. This is covered by rule:

1.1.5.1. Level I and Level II matches are not required to comply strictly
with the freestyle requirements or round count limitations (see
Section 1.2).

And if you use rule:

1.1.5.2. Standard Exercises and Classifiers may include mandatory
reloads and may dictate a shooting position, location or stance;
however, mandatory reloads must never be required in other
Long Courses.

You can run a Standard exercise that ups the round count without having to build much at all. Standards can be scored Comstock, Virginia Count or Fixed time. We never really see the last two used much but they allow the MD a bit of extra creativity when setting up courses of fire.

Make it a bit easier to set up and run matches and we may start seeing more of them, and more people willing to help out. Make it seem like a huge time suck and a lot of hard work and you end up doing it alone.

Can you explain this a little better!

Not much to explain really. I just been watching matches on ipsc-matches, looking if I can get a slot. Apparently it happen to be easy and you dont have to rush and register at the match opening time. Just add yourself to several squad waiting lists and wait. Also in 24 hours before match, there is no autosignup from waiting lists, so you usually can get a slot on Friday. At least this works for most GTA matches.

Huh ?

I think we're all still puzzled ?

I'm next on waiting list day before match, and someone does not show up for match and did not remove him/herself from their slot, I will not recive email that I've got my slot. So how will I know to go to match ?

What sneaky way have you learned around it ?

I you show up at my match or take the time to email me on the Fri before the match I can pretty well get u a spot to shoot no matter what the online sign up says I always have room for a couple extra shooters each day. even if we run late on the last squad
As far as high match fees go I charge what I have to to hold a match and the profits go to any expenses we have for the match, range improvements and maintence. as well as supporting
the club for work that has been ordered by the CFO due to rounds leaving the range and a neighbor who wants us shut down

:(
I hear this far too many times at ranges.
Thank God our numbers are growing!

Actually, the honeymoon was over when I was inadvertently put on a 'god-squad' at the Ontario Provincials a few years back....I was disgusted by what I saw. It stopped being fun....and was down-right embarrasing to watch a grown man have a hissy fit over a tenth of a second or a quarter of an inch...

It was cool while it lasted, I won a few matches and now I've moved along to something else.

I hear stuff like that all the time too, but what it says to me is that if that's all it took to make you stop shooting matches, you weren't really into it in the first place....

Oh I was into IPSC in a big way...so was my wife. We were shooting a match somewhere nearly every weekend (at least in the summer months).

Don't get me wrong, I think IPSC is one of the best games going. It's just the uber-competitiveness combined with high expense and all the political dirty laundry that gets aired out caused me to rethink why I put up with it all.

I loved the game....didn't like the rest. I won a few matches and then went on to something else.

I STILL think IPSC match fees are way too high for what you get. I used to pay them without even thinking about it because I was so into the sport but once the other stuff started flying in my face I reconsidered....

I'm not slamming IPSC here...just explaining my original comments in a bit more detail.

It's too bad you felt bad enough to quit. I hate to see people leave for such a reason.

For my self, I take the view that most people are generally decent but anyone can have a bad day or just a bad moment. We all have our moments (there are certainly some things I've said in the past that I wish I could un-say) but if you happen to catch someone at the wrong instant your impression of that person may be irreparably damaged. This is unfortunate because this tiny snapshot of a moment in a person's life does not a character define. From my long experience in this sport, most of the shooters I know would give the shirt off their backs if someone was in need.

In the shooting sports we all tend to be individualists. As a personality trait, this almost a necessity if you think about it. As such it's no small wonder that we seem to argue continually but make no mistake; most of us are good friends.

Only other caveat here: there always seems to be one or two in any group who have generally cantankerous personalities and they are certainly no fun to be around. I think this is the same in any sport, or any cross-section of humanity. I don't think it's fair to judge us all by that standard.

Agreed.....now if the match fees would go down just a little I'd be willing to take a stab at it again. Perhaps revolver class? Just to be different.

That is why. the rest are just excuses.
I believe competitiveness is what makes this sport interesting. You can look at is as a fun game, but then it will became boring very soon, especially if you won't see personal improvement.

Why would they go down if everything else is going up? It seem like there is already plenty of people who are willing to pay the price, so market demand is high.
