I actually had one. In my hand. And then the unfortunate occurred and some lucky CGN'er got a discounted, brand new, ARMS#18 mount :)

As I sit here cussing under my breath and waiting patiently for Wolverine Supplies to get more in 2 MONTHS FROM NOW, I wonder if some of you could go over the details required to fit an ARMS # 18 mount, advise some of the issues that I may face, and how to avoid or overcome them.

I do want to mention that I've only ever installed 2 scopes on rifles, and only ever installed 1 set of rings. I have never attempted to affix a scope base onto the M14 platform before.

I will be installing the ARMS # 18 mount, installing the Burris Medium Zee rings (at Hungry's urging), and finally topping with the Bushnell 10x Elite 3200 scope.

I did read this thread:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=586598

and it seems that I may be tasked with slightly dremeling the rear of the hand guard to allow a set screw to come into contact with the receiver? Again, just one of the things I hope you guys could touch on.

Thanks for any help and suggestions you could give.

Had you come to the Ottawa M14 clinic, I installed one from scratch and trouble-shot its fit for a CGN'er here. Worked out brilliantly. We even covered installing GI or M1A springs in the bolt to prevent stovepiping or how many coils to trim off the Chicom springs.

Follow the instructions with the mount and 75% of the time it will go on fine. It's the other 25% that honestly are too hard to diagnose over the internet.

Some will disagree, but if you don't ant to risk shearing the mounting bolt, I'd use a torque wrench as directed in the installation instructions and DO use the right Loctite.

In general, if installing an ARMS worries you, but an SEI or Sadlak steel type mount instead as they are easier to install and just as nice.

I suppose Hungry is only 3 hours away if I have any problems. You hear that Hungry, Imma come hunt you down to save my ####!

Seriously though, I will definitely follow the instructions and use the proper loc-tite and torque wrench (have one all lined up with my step-father). If I have any issues with stovepiping I will replace the springs in the bolt with Wolff springs. Aside from that, I will attempt to hunt down that replacement set screw in that article I quoted at the top. Thanks for the advice. I am kind of excited to get the mount.

I would not get the Wolf springs for the M1A bolt as they are over-power and might not fix the issue. Get standard M1A springs form Brownells made by Springfield Armory. I know for sure those work with the ARMS18.

Or you can trim the existing Norc spring to get the same result. No doubt the kit would be better overall but the trimming is a option seeing as the kits were on BO last I checked.
