SKS Russian vs. Chinese

Hi all! I'm looking at getting an SKS and am wondering what your opinions are on the quality of Russian vs. Chinese made.

The Russian I'm looking at is a military refurb in very good condition.

The Chinese I'm looking at is in brand-new condition and is made from milled parts with a screw-in barrel.

None of these things you inquire about have any relevance for being a good shooter. Ugly refurbs can be the very best of shooters. For under 200 bucks, the Chinese SKS are a good deal with no warn parts and shoot well. The Russian SKS are much prettier to look at, very much prettier to look at.

Ask yourself - why are you interested in buying an SKS?
Is it 'cos cost, design, history, function, what is it? Does Chi SKS offer any improvements in design change, materials used, accuracy, durability, cost?


Personally, I'd go for the real deal.
 
Russian vs Chinese, side by side, the Russian wins hands down cosmetically. Nicer machining, no cheap stamped parts, just look around the trigger guard area as a quick visual. As for shooting, the russian has the slight edge, varies by rifle. One of my D's rivals my best russian in accuracy. My least accurate is also a russian though. Each is hit and miss.
 
I have a Chinese SKS now and plan on buying a Russian later on. Russian will be kept stock for my Russian rifle collection and Chinese to bubba and generally abuse. :D
 
PLA Chinese and Russian are a tie "minus the stock", But a civi "non PLA" Chinese comes no where close to ether.
 
Had a Yugo, a Chinese and now a Russian.

The Yugo was a dream; I should have never gotten rid of it.

The Chinese... jammed and misfired constantly. I gave it away for dirt cheap after a month. The spike bayonet is unattractive, the wood was cheaply varnished, and honestly the thing was just way too light, makes it feel fragile.

The Russian is easily the prettiest of the three, but I haven't taken it out to the range as yet so I really can't say much.

Between the Chinese and the Russian, I'd vote go Russian, simply because of the bad experience I had with the Chinese.
 
My old Century Chinese import is just as reliable as my Russian, and perhaps even a tad bit more accurate. Like others said, get a Chinese military if you buy Chinese. That way it won't be slap-together Walmart-quality version, lol!

It's a matter of personal choice and preference in this case.
