XCR Opinions

A fair amount of negative publicity re: xcr, but unfortunately most of it seems to be based on generalized heresay rather than personal observation and use.

For me personally, the XCR has been an excellent platform - durable, accurate, reliable and built like a tank. No issues whatsoever and extremely soft shooting. Follow the manual for maintainance and lubrication and it's smooth sailing.

The adjustable gas settings are worth their weight in gold when shooting lighter loads (eg. Wolf) and in the cold. It's a no fuss rifle that works as promised and doesn't overachieve. The ergonomics are just similar to an AR (bolt catch and safety travel being two differences) and the entire rifle feels well designed and thought out.

Is it better than an AR ? Maybe in some respects depending on your priorities and then again, it may not be, again depending on your priorities. One thing is for certain, it a a pleasure to shoot and will be residing in my collection for a very long while!

I think the XCR is a really nice non-restricted rifle for Canada... that is if you never need Robarm to provide and customer service ;)

But let's not kid ourselves, if we could have non-restricted AR-15's, nobody would buy the XCR. Something that is becoming all too evident in the USA.

The really annoying part is that there are no huge design flaws, its just small things that could easily be fixed...

If RA would make an XCR-L 2.0 with all those small silly issues fixed they would have something.

But just to make one thing clear ... I dont think there is a better .223 semi auto bush gun in canada ...

Speak for yourself! I would have bought the XCR no matter what classification the AR was. And yes I do own XCR, Colt 6920 and a AR180B. And customer service from Wolverine in Canada is great by the way.

Oh man you too...

:D

:p

Truth told, I've switched from SAN, over to Cz. I sold my last remaining 552/CQB this past winter.

I am completely happy with the switch and I wouldn't trade my CSA carbine for any replacement. The SAN were very reliable guns, but the CSA is every bit its equal, and the 7.62x39 makes my firearm collection for weekly outings very inexpensive to feed.

Restricted/non-restricted matters little to me.

I agree. I'm not talking about Wolverine, I'm talking about RobArm. Terrible service - they are renown for yelling at their customers on the phone.

I've got a fair bit of trigger time on the XCR - enough to have the action open on me spontaneously and enough to have screws back out for no good reason - in short, enough to know I will never ever own a Robarm product again.

We never have to deal with RA we deal directly with Wolverine so I am missing the point as to the RA customer service complaints myself I couldn't care less how they treat their American customers...

I'm thinking that if you have had issues with screws or whatever backing out have you ever heard of maintaining your firearm...

:D

I really like my XCR. Took me a while to work out the bugs, but it was never the rifles fault. If I had one complaint is that the gun is not a 1 moa gun as RA advertises it. The best groups I ever got were 1.25 moa 5shot groups at 100yard with match grade handloads. However 1.5" groups were most typical. I've fired around 2500 762x39 and 1500 .223 through mine, and have never had the action come open, or a screw fall out.

However, my gas tube developed a crack and started to warp inwards. I contacted Wolverine Supplies and got an email forwarded from RA. They replaced the gas tube and even offered to have it chrome lined as I was shooting corrosive ammo (never again) through the rifle. Even though I didn't deal with RA directly, the forwarded email I received seemed friendly and helpful. Wolverine's dealing in this was nothing sort of fantastic as usual.

I'd buy one again and do not regret my purchase.

I disagree ... a company that treats any group of customers like ####, is ... well ... ####!

Ya... I think if you believe I can't maintain a rifle, you clearly know nothing about me.

And a screw should NOT need loctite on it to make up for sloppy tolerances on their hole threading.

Gobs: How would you rate the 7.62x39 conversion kit ? Is the barrel chrome lined ? My primary motivation would be shooting surplus ammo through it - would you recommend it for purchase (keeping your your gas tube issues in mind) ?

Hell, Sprint you can use your CZ, I'm thinking that by the time any shoot off takes place the results will reveal that 1-2.5 moa is the across the board scores @ 100 yd/m. unless you want 50 and 100, that is, if no one cheats. How about witnessed targets? I'll bring my XCR, that I bought off the EE, as well as my 5.56 barrel/bolt, that I bought off the EE, I'm keeping them by the way. I'll start by challenging stevesummit and Bullwhip to shoot off and witness, seeins how I'd be shooting with them anyway. I'm curious as to the actual failure rate, shall we do this with an ongoing report? And just to make it fair, I'll bring one of my AR's out as a control...Unless we're shooting on Crown land of course. Oh, just a note, although I've posted my Robarms experience, I'll go one more time. I've had a few online, as well as phone calls to Robarms. all have been fine, including the offer of sending parts to me. My experience with the owner of Robarms was fine....Oh right I didn't slag his "####', silly me.

It wasn't bad. The main problem I had is that those laquered steel cases would stick to the chamber. I had to use a gas setting of 4 to get proper extraction. Even then, one out of 50 or 60 cases would stick to the chamber and fail to extract. This the one of the reasons I went to .223. The other reason is 10 round LAR Magazines. The barrel was chrome lined, I believe all XCR barrels are.

Good thing they don't then. If you call them up, treat them respectfully, they'll do the same. I needed a part from them, they sent me three, free of charge.
