That "mottled" finish on the receiver would probably buff out if you started with a wire wheel and progressed to fine sandpaper. The scope looks a bit unweildy and I suggest a tasco 3-9X would give better balance and magnification. The butt needs a good shotgun buttpad. The last thing I'd do is clamp a bipod around that barrel after lopping it off to 18 1/2". Then you'd have a gun to be proud of!
 
Just a gentle kiss with a side-grinder will take all that mottling off faster. You can borrow mine if you like.

Unless, of course, you prefer utterly GORGEOUS rifles. Where did that awesome piece of wood come from?

My second Lee Enfield. A No1 mk3*. It was converted to a mk3 a the factory and then someone sporterized it, but except for a missing rear sling assembly, she is in great shape. The navy surplus store had two and this was the better. Someone had even switched out the rear sight on the other one. Fools.
Surplus store also had a jungle carbine, but I just can't afford it right now.

I also bought a Russian SKS. All the guy had was "refurbished Tulas for $225", so I offered $200 for a '54 Izhevsk and he accepted. Not a screaming deal, but it's a very nice birch-stocked refurb.

I was funning you guys to no avail. :p

It took me about 8 microseconds to decide I would buy it, but I kept my poker face and even got the vendor to lower his price. It was only still there because I got there before the other 30 guys who would have bought it ahead of me. On CGN it would have lasted 4 microseconds - it's a $1000+ gun.

Even without it (and the good SKS deal) the Gun Show was worth it. I got to see and handle many guns and gun-related stuff and ran into many friends.
 
Its too bad that someone had that gaudy family crest engraved on an otherwise fairly presentable Mauser.

I have already been able to grind most of it off, and a few passes with a file and a cold blue should take care of that. It will have scope mounts over top of it anyways.

The wood came from Matt Reinke in Ottawa. You have to go see Matt to believe the number of high-end blanks he has - spectacular.

Got a quite nice non-matching but original M91/30 PU Sniper from Epps. Not a repro, but an original rifle and scope that simply aren't serial numbered to each other. The scope is actually a very rare early model PU with brass lens fittings and an aluminium tube which I understand was only made for a couple of months.

I believe it's meant for a G/K43. The mount looks to be a reproduction - maybe the scope too, but I'm not an expert on the ZF 4 scopes.
