range fun?

A good used Ruger should be around $500 but you can go for replica's as well check out http://www.uberti.com/firearms/single_action_cattleman.php these are the guns I was using in the pics I posted earlier in the thread.

I know many that use them and are very happy with them and never have issues me I'm tough on my guns so after having an issue with one of my Uberti's during a competition I sold them and bought the Ruger's.

I'd also keep my eye open for the New Vaquero's from Ruger they are smaller and will not handle the pressures of the original Vaquero's a 4 3/4" barreled New Vaquero in 45 Colt would be my gun of choice for Cowboy competitions if I was just starting.

thanks cc. i need to flip a rifle before i can get into this. one revolver should be fine.but are two required to do the comps? and i didn't fully understand what you meant by the new vaqueros not handling the pressures AKA junk??
 
The New Vaquero's are a smaller gun (basically Colt SAA size) than the original Vaquero's they are not designed to handle the massive pressures that the originals can.

Basically if you went with a Ruger New Vaquero you could not load up to the top loads but you would be getting a top quality gun that will not have issues.

Quite a number of years back I had thoughts of getting into that shooting discipline,:redface: although I never did, and picked up what was new at that time, an early production Vaquero.

And you're quite correct, it is a decent shooter and will easly handle the heavy loads, but there is quite a difference between it and the new model Vaquero presently available.

In the last couple years I've seen two older Vaqueros at local gun shows. One was in 45 LC, the other in 357 Mag and both I'd say were about 95% and priced at just over $500.oo. When I picked up the following convertable SS Blackhawk in 45 LC/45 ACP I thought of selling my Vaquero, which is like new, but decided against it. I like the versitility of the Blackhawk and adjustable sights for different load use but I still have a soft spot for shooting the Vaquero every once in a while.

ok soon i might sell my mause and have a ruger to my name.

then it is time to learn about casting bullets. what lube is and how it is used and why(gutter fellas) those litttle caps that go on the bottom

stuff like this i will need to know.
 
FYI I didn't buy that 44mag Blackhawk I was just sharing another EE listing myself I have no interest in the 44mag my 45 Colts can out step it on every level so I have no need for one...
 
i thought the 44 mag was the king of all kings per say. usually the pistol cartigage pages in my handloader or shooter book kinda get the oversight.

i figured the 45 colt was a mild round
