XCR opinion

I would pick the XCR over the SL8 or MR1. Non-res is definitely one of the big selling features, but I also like the simplicity of the platform, quick calibre changes, etc.

Even if it was restricted, I might still choose the XCR over an AR-15...but that's just personal preference.

That's fair enough. Spite works, too. :) After all, I do have a non-restricted (non-AR) for this very reason. Look at the plus side: the AR was originally prohibited. And it's a good thing the XCR wasn't present at the time - otherwise it may well have had the banhammer applied to it as well.

Would you still love your XCR if it wasn't non-restricted...? Given a choice of the Benelli MR1, RobArms XCR or HK SL8 - is the XCR perhaps as popular as it is because you can't really accessorize the MR1 and the SL8 is expensive to "G36" and AR-mag well?

Speaking of ACR - they've had their own share of QC issues, haven't they?

Think it just goes with the territory - new platform = new kinks. Happened with my car, my iPhone, etc. The 1st gen ones always have their sucky little quirks...

Come on... since when is staking with a brand AR a problem? And carrier tilt is almost exclusively limited to piston AR conversions. And yes, there are a ton of aftermarket parts to enhance your AR; the point being you can modify your AR to your heart's content to suit your shooting style, etc. But the vast majority shoot fine out-of-the-box without any modification whatsoever.



Time will tell, but I think the next generation platforms (ACR, SCAR, ARX-160) have already eclipsed everything on the market (including other ARs).

I seem to remember a bushmaster ACR recall with rifles dumping whole mags down range full auto after a bolt release.

on a second note, i chose the XCR because :
no need to put on a quad rail for tacticool acessories -benelli
Non-restricted
I dislike direct impingement
No need for an AR mag adapter- SL8
Easy of maintenance - i love the one pin and pull. yes the AR platform has this, but there is no need for a bolt buffer.

Would I love it as much if it was restricted? maybe not as much, but I would still run it instead of an ar. I like to be different hahaha.

I would like to see a pistol caliber conversion for the xcr, like 9mm or .45 tho..why? for a little variation in my life.
On a second note- anyone in southern Alberta (east of calgary) have a swiss that we could do a shoot off with?
Nothing competitive, only scientific. various ammo, irons and scopes, switching rifles etc. not only am I curious, but I think CGN is as well.
 
I'm not interested in pistol conversions I want to see a 458 SOCOM conversion...

Note that puny 223 cartridge in the pic... :D

A relatively rare slamfire issue that was limited to the first batch of ACRs and immediately corrected (something that Bushmaster was apparently not able to ever reproduce, but recalled for liability issues). It seems to me this was limited to the occasional "burst" (I can't say that I recall anything where it went full auto on the entire magazine). But yeah, most rifles have at least one teething issue; I'm sure the SCAR had a few as well.
 
After a lot of just and unjustified XCR bashing here I had mine out in the bush yesterday (thanks to non restricted :) )for a few rounds of in style plinking.

Not a single failure or hint of an issue was observed, just had a great time ! Accuracy is in the range of 1-1.5 MOA which is enough for most applications.

I have loctite on the barrel screw and the deflector. I currently couldnt imagine a different rifle that I would get. So if you are not shooting holes in paper, the XCR is a very strong option.
 
Went out to the boonies for my first shoot with my new XCR. Ran about 100 rnds of american eagle through it without single failure then switched to fiocchi for 100 rnds.
Very quickly had a fte. Ironically, so did my son who was shooting a Swiss Arms PE90.
My fix was to turn the gas setting to 3 from 2. No more failures. We then both continued to notice inconsistencies in the fiocchi ammo. My conclusion was good ammo is the key to flawless performance.
 
and those that spew against the XCR-L and many other firearms don't seem to realize this and continue to blame the firearm...

Mine cycles FMJ of any type like a champ, except wolf. Lead tip hunting rounds are hit and mis for ftf. Maybe they are too long with the lead tip?
 
All good, modern battle rifles have gone through their teething issues. AR's have had them, today, after 40 odd years they seem to have it down to a rather fine platform. It is, however, restricted, and I for one like to go out to the bush and shoot mine without the restrictions of a range. Swiss Arms have also had some issues which have been worked out. Unfortunately, while it is an excellent platform, it is rather expensive.
I researched as best I could before making my decision to purchase an XCR-L and felt that in a few years they have developed, from the ground up, a very good platform. Yes, they have had some teething issues, all do. They have also in the same period of time addressed those issues and brought together a very good, less expensive rifle. And even with inferior ammo all it took was a quick gas setting adjustment to then feed properly. Over all an excellent platform.
