I am undecided if i should go with the faithful 270 win for a deer hunting rifle as my first big rifle or if I should try out the 7mm-08 and be different from the pack? What are your thoughts on these two guns. Whatever gun I decide to buy will end up being a tikka t3 lite. Just want some feedback...

Own both, the deer won't know the difference, I prefer the 7mm-08. - dan
What Dan said about the deer never knowing. I use the 270, but as much as anything that's because of the old Winchester M70s I like to use. They didn't make those in 7mm-08.
Pick the one that appeals to you.
7mm-08 = longer barrel life, 270Win = greater effective range
I had to same choice recently except for a Remington 700 CDL SF and finally bought a 270WSM.
If you don't shoot alot get a 270, if you shoot alot and have 1 rifle get a 7mm-08.
The way I see it is 270Win or 270WSM has:

- Better long range cartridge (I huge issue if you shot alot),
- Shorter barrel life,
- More limited bullet selection in .277 than .284
7mm-08 has:
- Better barrel life (that's a biggy for my)
- Better accuracy but 270s are superbly accurate,
- Better match bullet selection

Both are pretty underpowered ,not sure how they can even down deer sized game. 
I'll give you my opinion on them which is based on vast technological experimentation.

Gonna be a personal choice as the the feel of a LA vs a SA, other than that I don't know why there is even a debate.

I prefer the longer neck on the .270 case, and you can always down-load the .270 to 7mm-08 ballistics if you don't need all the 'gas', can't load up the 7mm-08. .270 barks slightly more, recoils a bit more too, but recoil with either is a mild proposition.

My 1st thought is since the Tikka T3 only comes with a long action receiver you might as well use a long action cartridge (270 win), but the 7mm-08 is a much nicer cartridge to shoot and kills really well so you are probably better off with the 7mm-08, why bother with the extra recoil?

I have both. Have had more one shot kills with the 270 than the 7mm-08.
Of course, I have used the 270 since 1962...................

Having a 7x61 S&H, I've never given much thought to acquiring a 7mm-08. Going by anything I've read or heard concerning the 7mm-08, it does seem to be quite a performer.
But then Ted, until I bought your Husqvarna in 270 Win a short while back, that caliber had also been a caliber void for me. I stress 'had also been'
. I've just picked up a second 270, a Sako A III Bavarian style that belonged to a friend as with failing eyesight, he's no longer able to use it.
I took them both to the range yesterday to scare the spiders out of the barrel and burn-up an assortment of factory ammo I'd been given.
I'm a huge fan of the 7mm-08, I think it's one of the most fantastically balanced compromises between killing power, recoil, accuracy and range that you can find. However, ammunition is still not nearly as easy to find as a .270, which makes it more of a cartridge suited to a reloader. The fact that Tikka only comes in long action is another slight knock against it if you insist on Tikka. For that reason, unless you are already reloading (as I assume you are not because this is your first rifle), the .270 win is probably the best choice for you. In my opinion, it's a mistake to buy a caliber for your FIRST rifle, without being a reloader, that you can't find in any walmart or canadian tire.
