Russian Tsar Alexander III signed the order to start production and army supply of Mosin Narant rifles.

The decision has been made after very heavy testing the rifle in extreme conditions, in the frost and desert, dirt, slush... The simple and elegant solution of the constructors handled everything with brilliance. The rifle was designed by Russian Army Captain Sergei Ivanovich Mosin, with some design contributions from Belgian arms designer Leon Nagant.

The beginning of production started in Tula, Izhevsk, Sestrorentsk in Russia and in France at Manufacture Nationale d’Armes de Chаtelleraut.
Over 3 800 000 Mosin Nagant rifles were produced before 1905.

Along with Russian Empire, this rifle well served in Empire of Austria-Hungary, in Finland, in Chinese and Korean armies.

Later this rifle went through many modifications, short carbine was created in 1933 - known as M38, later - changed to M44 carbine with folding bayonet

Got my two M91s a year ago and four months ago respectively. One is a lovely 1917 Sestroretsk and the other a 1916 Remington with beautiful crisp and clear markings. I may not pull them out of the safe as often but I love them just as much as my other rifles.

I'm gonna go hug them now ;).

Hahahaha....:p...I knew you were gonna say something like that...;)...but I have to tell you how amazing the (arsenal refurb) rifle is :dancingbanana:....the bolt-throw is slicker than some of my Swedish Mausers, and the bore is exquisite !

Well... Lets see it :D

:needPics:

And I bought on from Yardie this morning !
It was my contribution in celebrating this birthday...! ;-)
Tomorrow morning I'll go celebrating this birthday by shooting selected reloads in a '43 Tikka/Chatellerault M-91, a '44 Tikka/Ishevsk M-91/38, a '41 straight-stocked Sako M-39 and a '53 Arsenal 11 Polish M-44.
With my friends, of course! :D
PP.

I'm a proud owner of several Mosins. When wall hangers can be converted to shoot 3 inch groups, its all worthwhile.

Happy Birthday Mosin Nagant
