Anybody ever buy a gun for "safe keeping" but not really need it?

I have been sifting through my collection, selling off what I don't use, keepng what I like the most, etc. I decided to oil, wrap, and box a Remington 870 Express combo, as I don't have a use for it now, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. Anybody else do the same?

Yeah,...I did, have a NIB Ruger M77 MKII laminate/stainless in 7 Rem Mag...needed it like another job, cleaned it, taped up the box and put it in the back of the locker. No idea what I'll do with it, don't need to shoot it, but I don't really want to part with it...yet.

Bought a Piertta-Colt 1851 Navy .36 cal and a Rem. New Army .44 cal. Put them away until the time came when I had enough time to properly clean them, after shooting. Totally forgot about them, as they were tucked away, out of sight, in the safe.

I think I could safely say that you have just described roughly 1/4 of my guns. Sometimes I tell myself I should just get rid of them to recover money for new stuff, but then my brain just says: who are you kidding? It ain't happening, not in a million years!

I bought a winchester 30-30 Ranger model from a lady who lost her husband to cancer a while back. The rifle was a few years old and never been fired. I had it in my cabinet for three years or so and I finally sold it to a member on here. I hope he gets good use of it. I still have a scoped model 94 AE XTR 30-30 that I'll probably never fire.

Kinda, sorta.

A friend was going through a divorce and sold the guns to me for cash, he would buy them later when back on his feet. I gave him twice their worth to help him out. He passed away a couple years later and although I have looked at selling them, have not as they are now remembrances of him. I probably will some day as the rifles and shotgun are nothing special as firearms, but in the meantime they are in the back of the safe.

Do it all the time. Quite normal I think;)

i have a niw m14 for just that reason- it's one of the isreali ones- a trw, no less- first i didn't want to shoot it, now i can't- dumb c's

yup-same here-something caught my eye and I just had to have it-then tried to figure out what I would tell my wife why I ''had'' to have it....and more than a few haven't been taken out to the range yet

I have a grade 4 30-06 belgium bar that I couldn't pass up. I hunted with it last year but its just going to sit in the cabinet and look pretty. I love the gun and like shooting it but I don't want to scratch it. I also just bought another Auto-5 that I really didn't need but didn't want to pass it up as I thought it was a good deal.

There are too many guns that I really want and $$ are too short for me to keep guns that I don't really get too excited about.

I recently sold off a number of guns that I was not using. IMO it's good to thin the heard occasionally. Get rid of guns you're not using to buy others that you will use is always good.

I have sold several guns that I will never ever see again ,some so rare that I think I must

have been crazy to let them go! But we have all been there! Ome was a Colt Sherrif

nicole plated round butted postol (2,500 made) this one was #03!

Not quite...but there is always a part of me that wants to pony up for a .44MAG Desert Eagle...I know I have no use for it but the thing is so darn big I can't help but want one.

I buy 3 or 4 rifles a year and if i shoot 2 it is all the others i keep unfire brand new in their boxes, i got at least 20 rifles that never saw a round, i am a hunter, hanloader, shooter and collectionor, great pastime... JP
