Here is the deal for this year. I always hear about everybody on CGN that has a 1/4-1/2 MOA rifle right out of the box.

The ORA has 3 dates booked at Cedar Springs this fall Sept 10, 17 and Oct 1. The ORA guest fee for the day is $45. On top of that at Cedar Springs we need to pay for beach sentries and paid markers out of pocket so add $15 for each of those, for a total of $75 for the day.

I will pay (out of my own pocket) your guest fee and for your share of the beach sentry and paid marker if you can produce a 1 MOA, 10 shot group at 300m with your factory rifle. 1 MOA at 300m is a little bigger than 3 inches so your 1/4-1/2 or even a rifle that shoots 1 MOA has a chance.

This callenge is for NON ORA members.

The rules are simple.
1. Rifle must be mass produced (factory) with a factory barrel/chambering.
2. Any rest/rear bag combo that is allowed in F Class. ie no one piece mechanical rest or rail gun.
3. Any sight/scope.
4. Each shot will be indicated.
5. All shot will be fired from the prone position. (no benches)
6. I will allow single sting shooting for this challenge. (see #4)
7. No .50 BMG or .338 LM ( range rules)
8. No muzzle brakes. ( Fullbore, F Class and ICFRA rules)
9. Shooting will be done on DCRA 300m targets with a 1 MOA V Bull.
10. No whining.

Since these dates are not until the fall you have until then to practice. During the day you will get 5 chances to produce a 1 MOA, 10 shot group. If you do, I pay your fee for the day. If you can not produce a 1 MOA, 10 shot group you pay the $75 for guest fees, beach sentry and paid marking for the day.

Let the fun begin.

Some of the SKS shooters will love this, they can shoot MOA out to 500 yards with their bad rifles using open sights.

I just looked up Cedar Springs, Im in Petawawa, so that would be like an 8 hour drive. Not sure I could get that far. That would mean hotel and everything as well. How long is the Range at Cedar springs? If they had a long range, maybe it would be worthwhile to make a weekend of it. My range(eganville) is 400m, so thats as far as I've been able to shoot my F/TR.
I won the Eganville fall long range shoot with my F/TR last year (unbedded) and was up against some pretty nice Mick Mcphee custom jobs, with some pretty nice glass (compared to my Millet LRS-1.)

Great idea Maynard. If the shooter "wins" the challenge I'm not sure whether you or he would be the happiest shooter on the range. If the shooter "loses" the challenge then he will have had a fantastic day of fullbore shooting. And if it is his first ever time on a fullbore I'll bet he;ll be thoroughly hooked...

@punkrockboy a much closer range to you is Connaught Ranges just west of Ottawa, which includes a 900m range. The home club there is National Capital Region Rifle Association (http://ncrra.ca/) and they run matches and practices throughout the summer. And in August there is the ten day national fullbore championship match that is run by the DCRA.

Ceder Springs is a 1000 M range.
I have spent tons of time there with the CF Reserves.
Its a very nice outdoor range that went through a good overhaul about 3 years ago.
Have fun guys.
And good luck.

I think you mean was a 1000 yard range. One "overhaul" about 10 years ago reduced it to 600 yards. Then the latest "overhaul" reduced it again to 400m. Seems the military only requires soldiers to shoot max 300m.

punkrockboy, yep Cedar Springs might be a bit of a drive for you. But hey I will be heading to Ottawa from here for next weekends Victoria Day Matches, likely again in July for the long range matches and again in Aug for the national fullbore championship. 7 1/2 hour drive each way traffic permitting.

Since my club has a 400m range, perhaps I'll just bring out a couple of members sometime as witnesses and post the results. It would be pretty hard for me to justify to my wife spending 200 dollars on gas plus hotel and everything else when I already belong to a 400m range. It wouldnt have been a problem a couple of years ago but I have a baby now, and the wife would never let me hear the end of it.
If anyone else from the Ottawa Valley area is going. maybe I could team up with them to make the drive cheaper or something.
I would love to go, my rifle is definitely capable of consistent sub-moa performance.

Where exactly is Cedar springs? this sounds like it could be fun.

This is a cool idea for a challenge, I'll have to try this next time I'm out.
So 10 shots inside a 3.4" circle at 300m ... might just be doable though I'd bet one flyer will do me in each time.
