.45-70 lee enfield conversion?

So I sold a NEF .12 gauge and a decent bushnell scope to purchase a MK 5, I will be saving my loonies and toonies and maybe sell a couple other things I dont use anymore to fund some work by JR's.

Maybe I will have one built by this fall.

Sup bro! I'm considering posting it, I think it would be hilarious to see the various reactions of the CGN community.

I can't even imagine their faces, but it would be awesome.

I dont know what the heck you guys are talking about but I think you should post a pic.

ok thats just funny, if someone complains about that, I would suggest they should just pull their bottom lip over their head and swallow.

BTW, ive aquired a franken-enfield mk4/5 that is to be a donor for JR's.

Im saving my loonies & toonies so I can get it 45/70-ified.

Im planning on a stainless barrel and open sights. I really like the look of some of the full length stock'd steyrs at the moment, maybe thats over the top for it though.

Peep sights are best sights! I guess stainless barrel looks neat. Go for it, they make dandy rifles. I'd keep it to the max lever action loads, the Lee's rear lugs aren't quite as strong as the P14's and the 45-70 has a bit more bolt thrust.

I don't think it's dangerous but just sayin'.

Ya I got ya, better safe than toothless or dead.

I have a hate on for rust so I usually try and go for stainless, you can always get them powder coated or cerakoated in black anyways.

My gunsmith did a fantastic job with the bluing, getting a really matte, almost parkerized finish on the barrel.

Wow Jr's is just a short drive from where I live! Does he offer CrMo or carbon steel barrels? Would be nice to keep costs down. Could be my next project :)

sending a box of enfield to john today, going for a simple SS short barrel, open front sight, I will either sort out the furniture for it myself, or order something up.

I dont think it will need any fluting.

good to hear!

Now I got to figure out what color I want it, and how I want to build the stock.

Building things to my liking is generally now how others want to do things. For instance Im thinking cera-koating the whole thing in a tan color, Im fine with black, but I want something that doesnt stand out on the horizon, in the bush or grass too much, and Im not really looking for tacticool either...

And cause Im a lefty I have a preference for thumbholes or a low neck in on the buttstock, so I can move cycle the bolt and not taking skin off my thumb on my trigger hand. So some of my preferences dont really make sense to other folks, but its nice to have a rifle that isnt awkward to sell/let a right hander shoot either.

I had a number 4 Mk I in .45-70, and I built a number 1 Mk 1 in .45-70 using an original trapdoor barrel, it was pretty cool. BTW, both the action and barrel were Bubba'd, so don't get uppity about the rape. Ok, actually, I guess you can flame me for it, because I put it in a synthetic stock and mounted a red dot scope on it, so . . .

But for something really unusual, I had been considering an SVT 40 in .45-70, but that would be tricky!

There's a shop in kelowna that has a siamese mauser 45-70 conversion they built and they want ~2400 for it. It's looks nice, but not 2400 nice.

I have a siamese mauser in 45/70, not that mine is for sale, but I expect an offer of 2400 would make it so.

I currently own a Jungle carbine converted to 45-70 with a 4-shot single column conversion on the original magazine. It was built by a fellow in Saskatoon and I bought it from him a couple of years ago. He used a Shilen barrel and Craig Douglas of Saskatoon did the chambering for him.
The original owner gave me his load info and when I checked Ken Waters's favorite loads he was loading 3 gr of IMR 3031 over Waters' max load for Ruger #1 actions! So with some trepidation I loaded up some with 57.5 gr IMR 3031 behind a Rem 405 gr soft point.
What a pleasant surprise at the range! 3 shots in under 1/2" @ 100 yds and no sign of excess pressure at all! Impressed me so much that I spent some additional money to replace the military 2-stage trigger with a nice single stage trigger set at 2.5 lb. Now I need to get back out with my chrony to see what it is really doing! Soon as bear season is over.
Don't ask for pics as I am technologically challenged, but I could e-mail pics if anyone is really interested.
