M&P15-22 Mags...again.

Well even if they are allowed back into full use, your still not going to be able to walk out the door with it and use it for everyday use ... unless your everyday use is getting a ATT and going back and forth from the Range :D

They'll still be restricted :(

Point? Do you even own one?

We know we bought a restricted .22LR rifle...I'd use my 10/22 if I wanted to go plink in the woods.

I want full use of my 25 round mags.

Point ... you can only use it out on the firing range. Second, no I don't, and wouldn't want to. Doesn't mean I am not allowed to voice my opinion on the matter. If I am going to buy a firearm such as the M&P15/22, I'd want to be able to take wherever and whenever I please.

why bother commenting, its an AR trainer rifle, and AR's are range only. you shoot 500 .22's thought this to practice and then 50 of .223 for the "recoil"

+1

Hope the mag restriction is lifted, that would be great for current owners and future.

Kind of bizzare that the RCMP would so quickly change this ruling only after doing so just a small time ago, but hey, isn't this in there nature to do so....

More ammo for the NFA/CSSA....

We need to get someone with actual proof that the round limit has gone up...i think theres enough "my friend" or a friend of a friend stories here.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but please rest assured that this is not a
"my friend' story.

I was skeptical when my friend first informed me, hence the wording of my original post. However, I was standing right beside him when he picked up the rifle.

I saw the 25 rounder that came with the rifle. I examined the 25 rounder. I asked the counter staff about the status and availability of the 25 rounder. I was informed that new rifles are being sold with 25 rounders. I was informed that a supply of 25 rounders was on its way for anyone interested in purchasing them. I went to the range with my friend and used the 25 rounder in both his rifle and mine...and it functioned flawlessly in both rifles.

I will be checking in with them again in a couple of weeks to see if the 25 rounders are in. And, as HankHill pointed out, if in the end it turns out to be a snafu, then I guess we'll just have to pin them, and that will be all.

I picked up two "Enhanced" M&P 15-22s 12 days ago, along with a box of 22 spare mags (24 in total including the one that came with each rifle).

The mags and rifles had come directly from the Canadian importer 3 days before, and of the mags, the two that came with the rifles were unpinned 25 rounders, while 7 of the extras were pinned, and the rest were unpinned.

They had been pinned using a spring pin driven through a whole drilled in the mag body (one was done incorrectly, and was causing the spring to bind, and had to be epoxied and redone), and I was informed by the CFC when talking to them on the telephone to arrange the transfer and ATT, that I was expected to pin the rest of the mags myself as soon as I got home, or within a reasonable time thereafter, in order to comply with the current ruling.

When I enquired as to the legality of transporting unpinned mags, I was told that as long as I was intending to comply with the ruling, and pin them when I got home, I "should be OK if stopped and searched by the RCMP". Yea, right!

I would not rely on any dealer's interpretation of the current status of these mags, or that from the actual importer, as I was the one that brought this to the attention of both the dealer and through him, to the importer. The importer's response to my information was to say that the mags had been allowed into Canada unpinned, and as far as they were concerned, they were legal, despite my pointing them to the website giving the ruling in writing.

I am waiting for a response from a contact at the CFC before I have an unpinning party and rushing to the range to unload 600 rounds downrange.

Regards.

Mark

Don't want to seem negative, but I can't see them reversing a decision for the good of the gun people. Has it ever happened?

I know a dealer that is still selling them with the 25 round mag and said he has never been informed not to to that.

With all the billions spent on the CFC would it not make sense for them to send every dealer and registered owner a letter telling them what is going on?

Oh, I expect too much!

24 mags for two M&P 15-22s is no biggie. I have at least 12 mags for each of my ARs.

Mags are disposable items. They are probably the single biggest cause of malfunctions in ARs, and should be thrown in the garbage and replaced once it is established that a particular mag is the cause of any issues with a known "good" gun.

I buy on average a dozen mags every month, and put them away. You never know when they are going to get hard to come by. I have a safe full of extras.

Regards.

Mark
