Ruger #1 in 303 british

You're right, they are nice pictures but let me say it slower so perhaps you can pick it up this time around. If you don't like the additional dialogue and related info on the topic at hand, "if you don't like it don't look".:dancingbanana::rolleyes:

Wow, you've posted 6 times on this thread and not once were you on the topic of the Ruger #1 chambered in .303 British. :p

:eek:I do apologize!! I thought 'related' reload and accuracy might be applicable, even though the particular firearm used 'may not' be a Ruger No. 1.
And deviating from topic, seems I'm not the only guilty party. You also posted follow up to the side issue of 'hair size':dancingbanana::rolleyes:.. Another classic example of your 'pot calling the kettle black'.

Demonical-

The RUger rings do seem high, but if they were much lower, they might interfere with loading/unloading under the scope. Although higher than I would prefer, they seem to work fairly well on the #1.

The other thing about this rifle is that it is a dream to pack when scopeless. Last fall I was hunting blacktail deer in thick timber on a snowy day and I hadn't got caps for the scope yet, so it kept filling up with snow. I took the scope off with a twoonie and popped it in my pack and real;y enjoyed hunting the thick timber that way.:)

I guess you already know this, as you mention you have a .303 :)

Well maybe I will skip putting a scope on the .303 then... I've been kinda liking the open sights lately anyway.

I took a couple of ladies out bear hunting the other day, and offered them to pick one of my rifles. One took the RUger #1 303:)

Sorry the pic is bad, it was getting dark. First time I've hunted with someone wearing pink! They kept their big grins all day, we are going out a few more times for bear.:D

I've got a scope on mine, but I sometimes wonder why...I mostly have used it in thick cover. But having the scope zeroed and in your pack makes sense too, it's an easy and quick install with a twoonie or Loonie if you want ot make a longer shot.:)

got some Warne QD rings on the rifle now, just need a scope. Last fall I had mounted a Vx3 3.5-10x40 on it but that's now on my 7mm and I am leaning towards the fixed 6x42 Leupold for 303. I have the same scope on my No1 300 Win Mag and quite like it. I went with the Warne rings so I could pop the scope off/on quickly, the handling and portability of the scopeless No1-A rivals the Winchester Model 94 in my mind

last couple range trips had me blazing off the remaining factory ammo I had bought for the brass. Even with the irons sights I was having pretty good luck hitting or coming very close to hitting the 8" diameter gong at 300 meters, shooting offhand. What a fun rifle to plink with! no recoil and lots of cool

NECG makes a very cool little aperture sight, adjustable for W&E, that mounts in the Ruger dovetail and would be PERFECT for this gun in this caliber. I have one on my #1 in 9.3x74R and it is one of those perfect combinations of gun and sight that you stumble upon every once in a while.

If the #1 in .303 had a 26-inch barrel, still with the same Henry-style forearm, I would be all over it. As it is...I still might be.

Ooops...forgot to measure the thickness of one of my hairs...sorry...

We're talking head hair, right?

John

Definitely thought about picking up one of those NECG sights. It would indeed be perfect for this rifle.

I'll leave you to discuss hair measurements with whomever may be interested.:p
