.260 Remington?

:)Not a problem. No harm no foul.

For me, never having had a 270, a short while ago I decided to fill that void and purchased a nice model 3000 Husqvarna from from Why not? . It doesn't rain but it pours:redface:. Very recently, I just picked up a second 270, a Sako with full length wood that a friend and former workmate is no longer able to make use of. Oh well............

I like my .300 Win Mag.

30" shilen barrel gives me 3000ft/s easy on 210gr VLDs with Retumbo powder. 24 MOA from 100 yard zero to 1000 yards. No recoil (not even a little) to speak of as the gun weighs 15lbs with scope and all. The scope barely pushes off target.

Not really a hunting gun, but it sure is nice to shoot and it flies flatter and straighter than anything.

My hunting gun is a 7ish-lbs bolt action 45-70 that I'm currently load developing. I'm hoping to see some 400gr JSPs flying over 2100ft/s. Peep sights, brass buttplate. It'll fly like a rainbow but hit like a flaming freight train on steroids that's loaded full of fighter jets. At least I'll feel the love with that one, it'll have felt recoil.

Long range hunting rifle for deer and sheep or something? .260 is a fine choice. I'd personally go with a 6.5-.308 easy as pie wildcat, simple sizing .308 brass and 6.5 bullets. That would be the best IMO.

Yeah, my point is I'd rather resize .308 than buy the .260 stuff, and I think you can get a grain or so of powder cap more. Mystic Player has a 6.5-308 rifle and for the Canadian market, it seemed to be the easiest and cheapest thing to do.

I guess if Mystic Player chimes in he can explain the why/how of .260 vs 6.5-308 with more finesse.

How true. My first dealing with him was when he offered to sell me a VERY NICE model 1651 Husqvarna in 358 NM, that I 'needed':p. Shortly thereafter he stopped in for a visit while he was on the island and it was a pleasure to meet. On his most recent visit we weren't able to connect but did so on another previous visit. A few of us 'locals' from the CGN site met and had coffee with him at Timmies in Naniamo.

here's a quote from the 6mm BR article on Mystic Player's 6.5 target rifle.

"The 6.5 Mystic Chambering--Another Ackleyized 6.5-08
For this rifle, I created a custom wildcat, dubbed the 6.5 Mystic. I wanted something that approached the performance of the 6.5-284, yet burned less powder, with better barrel life. The 6.5 Mystic is my 40°-shoulder version of the 6.5-08 or 260 AI. I start with .308 Win brass, Winchester headstamp. (Winchester brass is readily available in Canada, and is much less expensive than Lapua or Norma up here.) After necking down, I do a light neck-turning, taking off no more than .003". When finished, this gives a tight fit in the chamber. My chamber is throated for a Cartridge OAL of 2.90" with the 139gr Lapua Scenar.

With the 6.5 Mystic, shooting 140gr-class bullets, I can approach the velocity of a 6.5-284, using less powder and cheaper components. Using Hodgdon H4831SC (46.5 to 47.5 grains), I can push these bullets to 2900 fps with excellent brass life. (I can touch 3000fps but accuracy and case life is poor). Compared to a 6.5-284 then, my 6.5 Mystic offers higher load density (100% with H4831SC and 139gr Scenar), similar 2900+ fps velocity (of course the 6.5-284 can be pushed faster), and I can use cheap and readily available .308 Win brass. Based on what I've seen so far, throat erosion is not too bad and barrel life looks promising."

nobody is saying the 260 is the full equal of the 300 Win Mag as a big game hunting cartridge at any range. Just that is closely mirrors its trajectory and wind drift at to 1000 yards, but with obviously much lower recoil. Target/match shooters made that comparison

I know where the comparison comes from , just want to make sure lesser informed shooters don't jump to conclusions based on a few sentences that may lead one to believe such foolishness.
Ballistic twins means nothing in comparing hunting rounds. Or would you try to kill an enemy Tank with your .50 caliber ranging machine-gun or use the 20 pounder main gun? Both ballistic twins but nary the same tool!

Yeah?! Well my dad's 260 rem will outshoot your dad's 300 win mag! So there!:p

For me, I have recently built a 260 remington target rifle, it shoots great, it is a 1/4 moa shooter when I am having a good day and it is easy on the recoil and easy on the reloading budget. I am thinking of buying or building a nice light weight hunting rifle as well, I have yet to define the actual requirements of this rifle so I haven't locked down the chambering yet, but you better believe that based on my experience with the 260 so far that it will be on the short list!

And like a couple of others have already said the chambering is a little less important than your ability to place a decent bullet in the right spot! Shoot straight, shoot often, have fun!
