Have you ever eatin snake?

If I recall it was kinda like chicken but kinda like fish too. If you over cook it it gets dry. Medium is best not well done.

Behr Grilles (sp) does it all the time on his shows. Usually raw and bites the head off. As for gardner snakes i think if you are able to kill it before it has time to release its defensive stink you are ok. A quick head removal. no chance to signal the release reflex.

I heard Grilles likes the trouser snake the best.

That could be an expensive meal if you get caught as the Massasauga Rattle snake is protected. I believe it is a $10,000 fine.

Yes I know that, thanks for the tip. My Grandfather shot it in his chicken coop many years ago and we ate it for the sake of trying it. I'm sure that statute has long passed. If it hasn't they are welcome to dig the old man up and charge his corpse.

haven't had snake but I ate crocodile in Kenya and seal and Beluga whale in the Arctic. The croc tasted like fishy, greasy chicken, and the seal was like fishy roast beef. Not bad. The whale blubber,however, tasted like shi*. Not sure if the flesh was any good..

some advice. If someone offers you whale blubber say "look, a squirrel over there...! and run in the other direction.

I am very cosmoplitan in my eating habits, so will try almost anything. Rattler was fine, IMHO, some insects are very good eating. [Locusts, honey ants, some termites., etc]
Many things are largely getting over the thought of eating it...not the flavor itself. LOL, Eagleye.

Right, during the colonial war.my father was in the Portuguese military when he went there in 1960,when he finished his tour he stayed there,that's where i was born.
in the 70's he had a cotton plantation,and like any other farm in Africa they are kind of isolated in the middle of nowhere,so when i was growing up all my friends were natives, that's probably the main reason of my experiences with the African cuisine.

i ve eaten rattle snake in texas while they were competion and put 10 in a bag ... not bad but not the best ...otherwise in CAR i ve eaten snakes that were definitely tasteable and even gourmet but gravvy was helping im pretty sure ...

I've had snake soup.

Nothing special. I actually wished it was more "snakey" and exciting.

Their diet is similar to that of frogs, so it might taste similar. Better than starving.
