Well I felt bad for my old sporterized Lee Enfield. It was sitting in the back corner of the safe for so long without getting out with the rest of it's friends. Bubba had already cut the buttstock an inch shorter and cut most of the fore end wood off. So I decided to breath a little life back into it and get it out again.
The end of the barrel was a little corroded and the crown was completely butchered so I didn't mind cutting the barrel back. I parted it of in a lathe to 18.5" and cut an 11 degree target crown. Now the crown is crisp and clean and the rifling looks good.
The trigger looked like crap so I polished the metal and rounded it out, then reblued the steel. Now my finger feels much more comfortable on the bang button.
I also polished the bolt and reblued the bolt head.
After that I figured it could use a little colour so I painted the barrel, receiver, trigger guard and magazine and scope all Kyrlon matte tan. Then I painted the stock with Krylon olive drab.
I installed an ATI scope mount and a cheap Tapco 3x9x32 scope. The only rings I had kicking around were high mount rings but I threw them on there anyways. I have a set of low mount rings coming in the mail along with a knock-off harris bipod.
So now my old Lee Enfield is going to fit in with it's more modern counterparts in the safe. I can't wait to get it out to the range so it can stretch it's legs.
Cheers,
Evilgrin
UPDATE:
I tried out this girl at 230 yards and was getting 4" groups with factory Winchester ammo while prone. Thanks to Vviking I have given her a good cleaning and removed a ton of copper from the bore. I expect it to tighten the groups out a little more. I was hitting a 6" gong at 160 yards with almost every shot. It still starts to heat up and shoot vertical groups after five shots or so. But I figure that's still pretty good for this old girl in her new dress.
Cheers!

OMG.....Enfield is rolling in his grave! I'd say it now needs a quad rail so a Laser,Flash light,Strobe lamp and perhaps a bicycle horn can be attached to that 18" bad boy
} I don't like the looks of it still but you know what they say about opinions. With a lot more practice I too hope for consistant 2" groups @ 100.
