IPSC Production gun question

Reading the rules, it does't actually say the hammer (striker) has to fall. All 8.3.7.1 says is 8.3.7.1 Self-loaders - release the slide and pull the trigger (without touching the hammer or decocker, if any), so I read that to say that as long as that action is performed, whether or not the hammer falls, the shooter has satisfied the rules and so no mag is required at all.

OMG the absurdity of it all.

If the hammer does not fall, we keep the belt but lose the suspenders.
 
5.2.2 says that a gun carried in a holster must have the striker or hammer decocked, once is a warning, twice is a DQ.

If you flip the sear disconnect in an M&P with the slide held back, the striker stays uncocked, right? I'm pretty sure you could spend years finding different ways to interpret the rules.. End of the day if I have to dump a few rounds into my pocket and use an empty mag, I will, as someone else mentioned a popsicle stick or similar works too.

Honestly I'm quite surprised that the best part of 100 posts hasn't yielded a definate answer, I'm currently liking the popsicle stick idea. Until someone decides that's unsafe too at least..
 
I used an empty mag yesterday at my match and it wasn't a big deal at all. At the IFUASC command, I locked the slide back - ejecting the round in the chamber - removed the mag, dumped the remaining rounds into my pocket and at the same time showed the RO the empty chamber. By the time he gave the ICHDAH command, the mag was empty and ready to be used. I showed it to him each time to let him verify that the mag was empty and then I released the slide, inserted the empty mag, pulled the trigger, removed the mag and holstered.

It really was a non-event. (unlike this thread) :p

But thanks to everyone for chiming in! :)
 
I was going to cut a block of safety orange plastic into a dummy mag for a friend tonuse with his m&P, can tell at a glance whaT it is, but he removed the feature.


I could see how it might catch a RO who is not paying full attention off guard to see a competitor "load" his gun. But if they are paying full attention it should be of no worry.

He should know that this will remove his gun from IPSC Production Division and make it ineligible 100% for IDPA. YMMV
