UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

It was mentioned before their was some interest in a holster unit for the Mares Leg. We've contacted a Canadian Saddle and Leatherman who is going to build us some custom fit rigs for the Rossi Mares Leg. His work is awesome as i've seen and touched them and have one already for myself! (My Mares leg is on the second shipment!) Mine is in saddle tan, here are some pics of one in brown :

Fantastic! w:h:

I prefer to keep my shopping Canadian whenever possible, and the work looks superb. Is there a relief cut for the sights at the top of the holster that I see there?

That holster looks well made and is well priced but I can't see that being all that comfortable for hiking. Mine will be in my hand or in a pack scabbard or stuck through my belt like a Japanese sword.

(i see a rather startled and pissed off samurai in your future.)

Probably more of a med depth bow with eye contact...:)

I can't remember who it was but someone a few years back posted a great shot of a 94 30-30 slipped through his belt and stated that when he needed both hands that;s where it went and I've tried it and as long as the belt has got a bit of slack it works pretty good!
I'm thinking a kydex or leather yaqui style holster cross draw on the weak side will be just the ticket....

I will probably get the holster, the only thing I personally dont like about it is it does not have the ability to swivel where the belt loop is so it would not be very comfortable to kneel down... other than that it looks great!

A modified Doc Holliday rig... :D

Not even that elaborate just something on the belt so if I need two hands to take a picture or use binoculars or what ever else might briefly require both hands I have some where to quickly holster the gun.
One of those bungy style single point slings might get the nod too as it would be quick to hang off the saddle ring.
I'm also thinking about hooking a loop of webbing under the butt pad at the back as an attachment point for the single point bungy sling because I could see it being useful to help tension the gun while shooting and specially while working the lever!
I'm looking forward to playing with the ranchhand and dialing everything in.....

It has a saddle ring too...I might just try an over the shoulder lanyard.

I DO love that Doc Holliday though...now I want to buy a Blackhawk just so I can have something to put in it! Kinda frivolous though...it's not like I can wear it anywhere... :(
