ATT's what you need to know

Does it say only the ones registered to you? My AB LTATT says nothing about the firearm having to be registered to me, I didn't have to request an ungimped version I just phoned for a LTATT and this is what the AB CFO sent.

No, it does not say that. I guess mine is ungimped. I just phoned them too when i applied and thats what they send me.

So, I've read a bit of this, and noticed 3/4 of them were from a few years ago..

My question..
I'm interested in purchasing a handgun, I don't have an ATT, but I have my restricted.
I also don't have a range membership, I just do the day pass thing..
Do I have to fork out $240 for a membership, or can I just buy the gun, and go when I have time?

No you do not in any province etc etc etc other than QC due to law 9

i just got my ATT today :D is it only that one sheet of paper that you cut the bottom off of? i thought they sent you a hard plastic card like your licence... or did i hear wrong???...

Talk to the club you want to go to. Tried this recently, and the CFO needs an invite from the club in order to get the STATT (insurance reasons, according to the CFO office). IMO, count on planning your day trip at least a week in advance.

Here is my situation, I have my handgun in my safe ready to go and I have been a member of a club for two months but they have not yet run a ATT course and it doesn't look like they plan to for a while. Can I get a statt for individual trips to the range without yet having the club level safty course? I have an idpa membership and took the nso course, it's hard to watch the time tick away on the range/idpa/CSSA/NFA memberships without being able to use them for anything. Thanks.

No. You get paper.
You can get it laminated if you want (just the significant part) but it's still
too large to fit in a wallet (like I've done with my (only) three handguns registrations.)

What did you expect with ONLY a $2Billion budget?
At least the paper's thicker than kleenexes (kleenessees?)

1. Take restricted firearms course.
2. Join a club (this is not a requirement in Alberta, and is an optional step)
3. Buy a Handgun or Black Rifle, or one of each, and 20,000 rounds of ammo, you will be issued an ATT to take it home (temporary).
4. Call the CFC at 1-800-731-4000 and tell them you would like a long term ATT with the following conditions attached:

a: You want to be able to transport firearms to all approved ranges all over Western Canada, including the Territories. (BC,AB,SK,MB,YK,NWT,NVT)
b: You want it for 5 years, or until the expiry date of your PAL
c: You want to be able to transport all legally posessed firearms, which means you can borrow them from friends and family provided you have the registration certificate
d: You want it good 24/7 and good for all Border Crossing into the USA

5. Go redneck go!!!!!!!!! You are now armed with the most important piece of paper concering your precious few firearms freedoms!!
6. Attempt to get an Authorization To Carry permit for when you are in the wilderness. Let us know how you make out!!

I just renewed my RPAL and LTATT. They said that I had to fax them a copy of my club membership card and that LTATT's will no longer be issued for multi province.

The CFO indeed does try to claim that but NO that is not required.. nor does insurance have anything to do with it. That is again just the CFO trying to "make policy" which has no basis in law or in common sense.

membership is not required by anything in the FA... and the BS of no multi-province ATTs is again the CFO having a stick up their butt and "making policy".. again something that must be fought.

ok cool, thanks :D

one more question... they sent me 2 diffrent envelope's, one with my att and another with an application for an att.... whats that about?

Just got my LTATT from the AB CFO. Couldn't have been easier. Only took about 5 minutes from the time i picked up the phone until I hung up. And it was e-mailed to me about 10 minutes later.
Good until my RPAL expires:
Authorization to Transport Restricted or Prohibited Firearms
"Transport to and from all approved ranges, licensed gunsmiths and border crossings in the Province of Alberta".
I said I wanted to be able to transport all legally possessed firearms as long as i have the registration cert (friends and family's restricted/prohibited firearms)- she said I can.
Only thing I forgot to ask was if it's good 24/7. But I assume it is???? Says it's valid from today's date, until the expiry date on my RPAL.
Can anybody confirm that it is indeed good 24/7?? Thanks!

So all in all I couldn't be happier!!

I completed a restricted transfer at the same time; and she said I would need to call to get a short term ATT to bring it home from the post office when it arrives. Which I didn't think i needed after all I've read here....but I'll be getting one for the sake of a 5-10 min phone call, better safe than sorry!!
But great service from the AB CFO !!

Seriously I don't know. (I only received my ATT)

But the application? Could it be that they're telling you indirectly, "Better start the process for renewal of the ATT, right NOW!!!!!!!" ?

Not too sure about Alberta but here in Ontario, it's 24/7 from 0001 to 2359. (On the stroke of Midnight, you'd better not be Transporting, Cinderella.)

Other difference, we only get it from home to CFO-approved ranges in Ontario and that's IT.
For Gunsmiths and Borders we have to get, again, ATTs.

Time is dependent on what is put on the application.

As for gunsmiths etc etc.. also that is dependent on what is put on the application. There is no reason to accept a gimped att all regardless of what province.

How to Guide: LTATT without any range membership

See post 106 for a pre-filled form for an ungimped att.

No application...done on phone.
Had LTATT in my inbox <15min after picking up the phone....how's that for service : )

Come to ON and see how well that works LOL

Also even on the phone it is highly dependent on what is asked for and what wording is used for the LTATT... w/o specifying that it is in essence meaningless. :(

ie: You may very well have a gimped att.

Applied for my first ATT as I am moving within Ontario. Called them up, talked to a nice lady there, and my address was changed and ATT approved with an ATT number provided in under 10 minutes!

After ready some of these threads I was sure scared I wouldn't be able to get in time for the move, but it went rather tic tac toe.
