Well, I didn't get any draws for moose this year so I guess it will be the usual white tail and mule deer as the victims. Last year I used .30-06 Springfield with a 168 grain bullet. I thought that was a bit of an overkill for deer, so this year I'm stepping it down a little. This year I'm using .308 Winchester.

Here is my load:
- 150 gr Nosler Spitzer
- 45.0 gr of H-4895
- CCI LR primer
- 1-F nickel plated .308 Win brass that I picked up at the range.
- COAL 2.810" (so that the rounds fit in the magazine, I stuck with this length)

It should take mule and white tail deer down without issue. Now all I have left to do is get my rifle sighted in. I'll be using a Tikka T3 Lite.

Did you work up the load? as in try it out? Just curious... as you said you need to sight in the rifle...

I'm betting you have used this load before...:)

Well, I have used this rifle with 155 gr nosler HPBT with 45 gr H-4895 and it was all good. When you look up in the data books 150 gr & 155 gr loads are all combined together. My hunting partner has the same rifle and this was the load he used last year. Furthermore, the rifle is currently sighted to 300 yards using the 155 gr bullets. I want to drop that to 100 yards for hunting.

The time is getting close. The range will start getting busy soon so I was out early today. I tried a few different loads for my 7mm and the .308.

.308 44gr of 4064 under a 150 gr interlok ( Not bad for accuracy but with that tough trigger on the Edge I was happy with a 2" group)

7mm 63 gr of 4831 under a 140 gr Berger hunting bullet gave me half inch groups out of the TC venture and 64 gr under the same bullet would only do 1.5"

Looks like the 7mm with the 63 gr will be the one that goes to the prom.

Next is to see what is going with the load out to 400 yards. Only way to find out is to punch holes in paper. Just waiting for a day when the wind isn't blowing like a fricken hurricane. ( gotta love the prairies )

Next comes the BP guns and the bow to tune up. The list of chores is endless.
But I'm not complaining:D

Yeah, the ranges do get busy just before hunting season and all of the yahoos and hooligans begin to show up. The only benefit to this is that there is lots of 1-F brass to pick up when they are done.

Got mine done too for my unbloodied .260 Remington.

130 grain Barnes TSX
42.0 grains of H4350 and BR-2 Primers
Only ran one over the Chrono and got 2760 which is 20 fps below the Barnes book value

Now, Gentlemen, OP specifically said that he had to go to the range to sight in the rifle.

To me, and since this is what I do, that means that he has worked up a suitable load. Gone home, loaded up 100rds. He will now go to the range and fire for sighting and confirmation. That should use up 10rds. He will then proceed to fire an additional 70-80rds from various positions at various targets and varying ranges.

That will leave not less than 10rds for hunting. Since you can only get 3 whitetail and 3 mulies in AB, that will leave 4 rds for misfires, and missed opportunities. If he does similar to this, he will do well.

That being said, OP, I would have stayed with what you had (put that 168gn bullet in your .308) and then you could have gotten an elk and a moose (if you had been drawn). That would have used up all of your rounds except 2, which is pretty efficient. Good on ya!

LOL

it was simple joke ill admit....but a joke none the less

Well, it's like this. These loads will also be used by my hunting partner. That's 50 each. PLUS, whatever I don't use can be saved for down the road in subsequent years. It's not a big deal.

I thought of putting 168 gr bullets in the .308. I decided to just leave them loaded in .30-06 and save them for when I do get an elk or moose draw.
