This was an impulse buy....never knew this rifle existed.
My son and I were in Lebaron and strolled into the gun shop. Saw a SB rimfire with a threaded bbl. Left the store after paying ~$185.00
After mounting a 3-9x scope(found on the EE) and a spare flash suppressor I took it to the range, zero'd it in at 25yrds and ended up putting 200rnds downrange.

Remington 597 ACC-SD 16.5" threaded bbl, synthetic stock.
Good: Rifle feels and looks good IMO. Nice textured stock and weight.
Ate the cheap $$ Win555's without any funtional issues but did have a couple of dud rounds.
Accurracy was very good for a semi-auto RF using cheap ammo @ 25yrds.
OEM 10rnd mags cost ~$10 each.

Bad: Trigger felt heavy for my liking but there was virtually no creep.

Overall: Great plinker at sub $190.00!

Here are some pics taken an hour before range time....

Update:
After searching around this great site I found a few easy tips to "improve" this little plinker.
I just finished free floating the stock/barrel using a 11/16 socket wrapped with 80 grit sand paper(all I could find). I can now easily slide a couple sheets of printer paper between the stock and barrel.
I may have to try the VQ hammer and extractor down the road but so far it's shooting and extracting great....although the trigger is a little heavy.
...a nice plinker for not so much $$$ that's worth considering.

Bed it and then go to rimfiresports.com and pick up the hammer and extractor from VQ. Also try finding the sweet spot for the guide rods for the functioning of this rifle than hammer mark it so every time you want to clean it it goes back to the same "sweet" spot. I do like the flash idder ;)

Satain,
Thanks for the great tip re: guide rods. The rifle is functioning really nice right now and if nothing changes after shooting a thousand rounds or so, I will hammer mark it.
Rimfire Sports here I come....

Wow! That rifle makes my ruger look terrible, and at half the cost too! That 597 would look awesome if an OD finish was applied to the stock, or perhaps a bipod in the front. Btw, how do you find the 597's accuracy?

I like your thinking re: OD stock.
I had the 10/22 VLEH. Nice rifle but the heavy bbl and bi-pod made it a little heavy to carry around. Great for bench rest shooting though.
I plan on keeping the 597 light so no bi-pod.
I've only shot it to 25yrds(indoor range). Rested on my ammo box it's been shooting inside a Canadian quarter for the first 200rnds. I think I can do better with a lighter trigger and some more range time.

+1 on the volquartsen parts they are worth the money. even if you just want the trigger get the extractor as well it functions flawlessly. before i got my extractor i couldn't get through a mag without a jam now i haven't had one since.

X 3 on that

...just a quick update.
I installed the VQ Hammer and extractor. All I can say is What a Difference in the trigger pull! So much lighter and very crisp.
Although I wasn't having any extraction issues it is obvious the part is well made and should last for a long time.
The parts took less than 2 wks to arrive and installation was straight forward thanks to all the vids on youtube.
Another happy shooter sold on these two mods....

One of the biggest problems with the Remington 597 is that people tighten up the guide rod screws too tight. This puts pressure on the guide rods, makes them bow a bit, and the bolt drags on them, causing failures to eject.

The simple fix is to tighten up the guide rod screws only finger tight, so that they just touch the guide rods, then possibly back them off 1/8 turn. Also, a bit of good gun oil aoolied sparingly to the guide rods will help functioning. So not use dry graphite products.

.

buffdog...my son had some cycling issues after I re-installed the guide-rod/springs. When I backed out the rod screws it ran great again.
Next time I'll try "finger-tight"....

Great lookin rimfire:rockOn:
Does anyone know which of our site sponsors carry it?(Preferably for the same price as Lebarons:redface:)

Zerex...LeBaron's "great price" was made better with my 10% members card.
Try Ellwood Epps. Their price for one is not too bad. Or keep checking the EE for one.

I got mine at Elwood Epps for 200 and change. I polished the trigger to improve it, didn't do much but did make a difference. Free floated the barrel and bedding in the future. The 30 round mag works good just don't put all 30 in it. I have heard that these guns like sub sonic ammo, is this true? If so what brand works best.

Been thinking of getting a 597 so this thread is excellent. Remington is offering $25 back on 597s till year end so will move on it soon.
