Weatherby Fan's

Nope, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once. If the BRNO 602 in the Rigby is no good for recoil control, then why would it be a sought after rifle by strapped PH's? I wouldn't be surprised to hear you happened to be shooting that model scoped when the stock design was built for using the irons;)
Also, the 602 stock isn't the same as the Sako Bavarian that we are looking at either. Take a side picture of both and run a line straight through the bore an you will see what I am saying.
And did you expect a 400gr bullet at 2550fps to feel good? man up :D

Nope, wrong again! The Rigby was iron sighted. The 602 came with two stock types, the classic straight and the sloping one. Anyone who has actually fired large cailbers can attest to the fact that a sloping butt causes more muzzle flip. That is the reason my current CZ550 has a straight classic stock.

Hmm, I own a .460Wby - care to shoot it ;)

No, no, no, not at all. Folks who take it seriously get all foamy at the mouth and usually start making things personal. It was just my way of tipping my hat to you and saying adios amigo!

I will be through PG in a few weeks, I'll drop you a PM and buy the first round (beer or coffee). Good luck with the slough donkeys, I love hunting them!

I know this, but you alluded to the sloping stock, and I have seen more with the sloping stock than not.

And yes I would at your expense:D I'll wear gloves though so I don't get tainted.

Says me ;)
Have you EVER fired a un-braked .378 or a Brno 602 in .416 Rigby loaded up? (it had the sloping butt)
I have, and there was a heck of a difference in recoil control.

Funny thing; I have a CZ in .416 Rigby that originally came with the straighter "American" stock. I swapped the stock out for a Bavarian stock and experienced considerable reduction in recoil. My replacement stock was a take-off from another shooter who had swapped the other way, from Bavarian to American to reduce recoil. Both of us are 100% convinced that our opposite responses worked for us. I've concluded that telling someone else whether his rifle kicks him is an exercise in futility.;)

Brass isn't four times the price because they sell four times as much.

Not sure where you get those figures from but my 257 wby brass costs 2 bux per piece. Similarly nosler brass is 1.5 bucks and remington about a buck a piece. Weatherby brass is Norma brass which is quality brass not dented and sloppy like remchester brass.

Nosler 280AI brass is made by Norma, but is doesn't wear the Weatherby name so it is significantly cheaper. Lapua brass is superior to Norma brass, but it costs about half as much. Norma brass for the 30-378 is ridiculously expensive at about $4.50 each, while Remington 300rum brass costs about $1.40 each or less than 1/3 as much.

You should be comparing the 30-378 prices to 416 rigby or similar not a 300 rum. Completely different cases.

Also the Nosler 7mm stw/300 H&H is $70 per 25 pieces. That's more than the 300 wby from norma.

The 300RUM comparison is based on the fact that it offers very similar ballistics to the 30-378. Very similar performance with brass costing less than 1/3 as much.

Its all about how the rifle fits a body.

Comparing similar performance shouldn't have anything to do with comparing how expensive brass is. The x.378 and up are based on a bigger case than the RUM series. By your logic we could compare 470 capstick and 470 nitro prices then as well.

My point is that if you are going to compare weatherby brass cost to other manufacturers then compare the weatherby case to something similar another manufacturer offers. 300 rum to 30-378, 25-06 to 257 wby etc are not good examples of this. 257 to 7mm rm is a good one as is the 7mm wby/300 wby to 300 H&H etc. The fact that there are other cartridges out there that perform similarly to the weatherby offerings has nothing to do with weatherby brass costing what it does. The cartridges wby brass is based on cost more than what the competition is based on.

So basically, you pay extra $$ for the Weatherby name, rather than actual ballistic performance. :p

just like comparing 17 HMR ammo to 22 LR ammo!!!! :p

How does that .375 Ruger compare again to the .378Wby...;)
Comes up quite a bit short :p

The 378 Weatherby has more velocity, if velocity is what you are after. But, just like the 300RUM and 30-378 we were discussing, the 375 RUM is similar to the 378 Weathebry, and brass isn't $4.50 each for that, either. Another example of paying for a name, rather than ballistic performance.

LOL - now it is all about the meager price of a piece of brass that lasts the average person 20 years ---

This is just getting priceless!

Next you will argue about the "Barnes" name adding 10 cents to a bullet vs. a .375 bullet from "Nosler".....

Most of what you are saying is true. The fact that Lapua makes no belted brass anymore that I can find takes them out of the equation all together. That being said I just paid $1.80 a pc for Norma 7mm Rem mag brass. One of the reasons I sold my Weatherbys was because of the price of brass. Oh and the freebore pissed me off as well.
