To be fair, my brother has done more with a Mk V than even the "guys that know more than anyone here can ever learn". To his credit he now shoots a Montana.

I've had a coupel of Stevens 200 rifles. You may not be able to tell the difference between a Stevens 200 and another, higher quality rifle- but I can. ;)

I'm not frowning on someone that wants to spend more money on brass to get the same results. It's your money, spend it how you choose.:)

But there is still no measurable ballistic difference between the same bullet leaving 2 different barrels at approximately the same speed, even if you are paying $4.50 per piece of brass!

Lots of people that care far more about accuracy than I do build custom long range rifles on savage actions. I wonder why that would be?

If you care not how people spend their money on brass, why do you keep mentioning higher brass cost and implying it as a negative related to weatherby rifles?

You also keep using the word "approximate" same speed and that there is no measurable difference between eg the 300 rum and the 30-378. If they do not have exactly the same MV then there IS a measurable difference. Many people will spend a ton of money to get a few extra fps. Be that with longer/custom barrels, improving the case etc. Minuscule amounts of extra speed are gained for a huge increase in powder and expense but lots of people do this. A 30-378 is faster in all regards than the 300 rum and for people wanting that extra fps gain I don't know why people point out brass cost. My 300 rum does 3180 with the 200 nabs and I'm happy with that but the 30-378 would push them faster and lots of people use them for just that.

I would also like to mention that 338 lapua runs about $6 per shot. Completely insane right? I mean a 338 rum will do the same for way less.

You were discussing the Stevens 200 as being just as good quality as any other rifle, not discussing custom built target rifles. Try again. :p

I really don't care how you spend your money. If you want to spend more on brass to do the same thing, then go for it. It doesn't make sense to me,but you go right ahead. :)

I think stubblejumper already measured the difference for us. 3% I think it was..You may believe that will translate into a measurable difference when shooting at a target or game, but I don't.;)

Lots of people spend lots of money on lots of stuff that makes no real practical difference. :)

You may think that a 30-378 pushing a 200gr NAB 50 or 75 or even 100 fps faster than your 300RUM will make a difference on targets and game- But I don't ;)

If we are talking about velocity, then they are pretty close, yes.
If you want CRAZY ammo prices, look at the 30-378 Weatherby ammo with TTSX bullets- $6.85 a shot! For .308 caliber ammo!! Now THAT is insane! :)
