My Polish M44 Mosin Nagant

your rifle looks great, removing the bayonet really helps the look and handling of these rifles. I did my bolt handle the same way. here is one more thing; I polished the engagement surfaces between the bolt parts and also the cocking ramp for my rifle this made a huge difference. again nice work

Thanks mg;
I worked the cocking ramp on mine with oiled 600 grit paper and finished
up with a small felt wheel on the Dremel with a little Mother's Mag Wheel polish. Smoooth!
Cheers;
JJ

why would you do that? what the point?

It is like the people who must climb a mountain or build a better mouse trap.It is the pride in making a great piece of technology work even better.
I am of both minds ,there definitely is a place for very good specimens of old rifles to remain as they were intended. It is also nice to see quality work done with good outcomes. Those of you who have nice untouched versions ,your investment just became more valuable. Those that enjoy modified versions ,enjoy,this looks like a vry nice and conscientious job!:canadaFlag::rockOn:

Happens here every now and then, isn't it.

You find a mint, bone-stock 1925 Model T. You decide to give it updated brakes, add a small turbo for more power, and update the steering. You give it a very nice paint job, because the original was a bit bland. Now you post pictures of the thing on a collector's forum, who react negatively, failing to appreciate the quality of your workmanship and the improvement of the car's handling. Should this be a surprise?

Forget it lou, most people that post this kind of stuff in milsurps are just trying to get a rise out of "hector the collector". On a side note, anybody know where I can pick up a nice model T ? I want to use it as an instructional aid to show people what "cranking over the engine" means

I did this for the same reason I re-worked this old No. 4 Mk 1 Enfield, to
build a rifle to MY liking. If it perturbs the "purists", boo-frikkety-hoo.

Here be my .45 ACP Lee Enfield.

My puppy enjoyed the Churchill quote though.

Thanks all for the good comments!

Here's some pics of my Polish M44 which I bought from Dave at Demal Services 4 yrs. ago for $135.oo, and it arrived in un-issued condition.
Naturally, I had to set up this rifle to my liking so I started by removing the
pig-sticker from the barrel, then blended, polished & blued the barrel
sleeve to finish that bit.

I then fabbed up the bolt handle using some 3/8" cold rolled steel rod.
The original bolt handle ball was saved and is secured to the new handle
shaft by drilling & tapping the ball, then after screwing on the ball, a
fine TIG weld was applied prevent movement. The new handle is secured
to the bolt body in the same manner. A wee bit of polishing finished 'er up.

Next came the fitting of a Huber Concepts stainless trigger followed by
bedding & free-floating the action. I finished off by filing the front sight to
a point.

The Polish Mosins are by far the best made and finished rifles of their type.
Mine has a .309" bore and shoots sub m.o.a with Lapua 123gr. FMJ on
top of a load of 18.4 gr. of Trail Boss powder. I've not chrono'd this load
yet, but will. I haven't done a thing to the finish on the stock because it's too nice as-is to mess with.
This project will be fully complete when I finally get ahold of a Mojo Micro-Click rear peep sight.

I make use of the bayonets I remove from rifles cause I'm a firm
believer in recycling.
The big spear is used when out hiking with my dog.(Last ditch defence for
cougars & bears)
The short spear is for subduing halibut before draggin' them aboard the boat.
The heavy duty hickory shafts I recycled from Fire Dept. plaster poles.

I like what you did with the carbine as well as the bayonets. Well done.

way to make a total safe queen with a useless pain in the arse piece of steel on the end of it into a functional shooter you jerk, then you had the nerve to actually go out and find a load for it and actually use it?

The nerve of some people....

BTW, isnt cabela's selling mosins for like $149?

Denke mein freund;

I hate to waste good metal. I know one shmoe that uses the hard chromed
Norinco ones for tent pegs!
