With modern handguns/rifles that can handle the pressures the 45 Colt can be loaded to out step the 44mag and that is with lower pressures if you do not reload then go with a 44mag top performance factory 45 Colt ammo is not available in Canada.
Also a 44mag is actually only .429" diameter and the 45 Colt is .452" diameter a big difference especially when wide meplat bullets are being used.

Just happen to be watching the classic 'Dirty Harry' as we speak. Since that time, there are a number that have surpassed the 44's power, including the 45 LC. The 'King', at present, is the 500 S&W which has roughly twice the power of the 44 Mag.
